Civil Police arrests woman for qualified theft against elderly woman in Belém
The suspect took advantage of the elderly woman's health condition to access the victim's bank account and make Pix transfers, in addition to stealing jewelry and money
Teams from the Elderly Protection Police Station (DPID) executed, on Thursday (10), a preventive arrest warrant against a woman investigated for qualified theft through abuse of trust against a 71-year-old elderly woman.
The arrest took place at the suspect's residence, located in the Jurunas neighborhood in Belém. According to investigations conducted by the specialized unit, the suspect took advantage of her position as a domestic worker in the victim's home, who was recovering from surgery, to commit various thefts.
Using the elderly woman's cell phone and access to the banking app, she made multiple transfers via Pix that totaled R$ 9,700.00.
The victim only discovered the thefts when she tried to make a purchase at a supermarket and was informed that her bank account had no balance.
Due to difficulties handling electronic devices, the elderly woman requested help from family members, who confirmed that the amounts had been transferred to accounts owned by the suspect. In addition to the amounts transferred electronically, the suspect also allegedly stole jewelry and money belonging to a niece of the victim.
“This type of crime is not limited to financial loss. It is a violence that deeply wounds the dignity and trust of vulnerable individuals. The Elderly Protection Police Station acts firmly to ensure that those responsible for these acts are identified and held accountable, and that the victims receive the necessary protection and justice,” emphasizes Delegate Vanessa Macedo, director of DPID.
During the investigations, it was found that the suspect had previously been charged with a similar crime committed in 2024, also against an elderly woman, in a procedure investigated by another police unit.
Given the criminal reiteration and the exploitation of the victim's vulnerability, the police authority requested preventive detention, a measure granted by the court of the Police Inquiry Court of Belém.
The judicial decision was executed, the arrested individual underwent the necessary procedures, was sent to the Penitentiary System, and is at the disposal of Justice.
