Cultural facilities of the State receive maintenance works

Interventions total nearly R$ 10 million and involve maintenance, modernization, and adaptation of cinema rooms

The State Department of Culture (Secult) has started, in recent months, a series of maintenance works on its cultural facilities. Among the spaces included are the Forte do Presépio, the Teatro Gasômetro, the Theatro da Paz, the Museum of Sacred Art (MAS), the Casa das Onze Janelas, the Museum of Marajó, the Cultural Station of Icoaraci, and the Auditorium Eneida de Moraes, in the Palacete Faciola.

The works are also underway at the Museum of the State of Pará (MEP) and the Public Archive of Pará (Apep), which remain temporarily closed to visitors until the end of July. In the case of Teatro Gasômetro, the event schedule is blocked throughout the month for the execution of the works. In the other spaces, visitation remains open, but access dynamics may be adjusted according to the schedule and progress of the services.

At the Forte, for example, maintenance of the wooden bridge is planned, among other services. When the works reach this stage, access to the bridge will be temporarily interrupted to ensure the safety of visitors. At Gasômetro, the work began with the dressing rooms and bathrooms and will extend to other areas of the building, requiring the temporary suspension of the programming at the location.

The interventions total an investment of nearly R$ 10 million, with part of the funds coming from the Paulo Gustavo Law (R$ 3.7 million), allocated for the acquisition of furniture and projection equipment, so that the Cultural Station of Icoaraci, the Museum of Image and Sound, in the Palacete Faciola, and the MAS will also function as cinema rooms.

The first cinema room, named Cine Guanabara — in honor of an old cinema in the Icoaraci district — has already been delivered. The opening took place at the end of June, featuring short films and an exhibition with works by the district's ceramicists. The room is open for community use, by scheduling through the email [email protected].

Another R$ 4.6 million comes from the National Aldir Blanc Policy and the State Treasury, aimed at the maintenance and revitalization of the spaces.

“The works are the result of a continuous effort to improve the enjoyment of the State's cultural facilities. Moreover, most of Secult's facilities are historic buildings, urban heritage, and symbols of our history. It is essential to maintain these spaces as a way to safeguard our memory as well,” emphasizes the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal.

Improvements – At the MEP, three halls on the upper floor and the internal garden on the ground floor are being renovated.

The museum's director, Bruno Silva, highlights that the intervention “will bring more comfort to visitors and staff,” in addition to further enhancing the space. “The MEP also houses the technical reserves of archaeology and art. There we have a large museum collection, with items that reflect the culture of Pará and the Amazon. In other words, maintaining this space is essential,” he emphasizes.

At the Public Archive, the works include the renovation of administrative rooms, storage areas, and roofing, among other spaces. “The services are essential to ensure comfort, safety, and preservation of the historical collection,” points out the director of the Public Archive, Leonardo Torii.

He also highlights specific improvements for the preservation of documents. “One of the renovated rooms houses the oldest documentation of the Archive. With the qualification of the space, we can ensure greater longevity for these records and expand their preservation over time,” Torii emphasizes.

All works follow state regulations on the use of sustainable materials, waste management, energy efficiency, and waste reduction.
