Four men were arrested by the Civil Police on Tuesday (8), suspected of qualified homicide, involvement with international drug trafficking, smuggling, and money laundering. The arrests occurred during Operation “Shadows of Medellín,” launched in the municipalities of Abaetetuba, Limoeiro do Ajuru, Cametá, and Moju, in the Tocantins Integration Region.

Money and items seized in the police action

“Operation 'Shadows of Medellín' reinforces the commitment of the Civil Police to confront organized crime in an integrated and strategic manner, especially in the interior municipalities, where these organizations attempt to infiltrate. This firm response demonstrates that the State is present and active,” highlighted the director of the Interior Police, Hennison Jacob.

The objective of the action was to execute six preventive arrest warrants and eight search and seizure orders issued by the Criminal Court of Barcarena. Two targets of the operation were not located and are considered fugitives.

During the execution of the warrants, the police seized various cell phones, digital media, and R$ 295,000 in national and foreign currencies, including Colombian pesos. The money was found in a hidden compartment in the wall of one of the suspects' houses, disguised with an electrical outlet.

Retaliation - The operation is a continuation of the investigations into the homicide of Galileu Pinheiro Macedo, which occurred on February 17, 2024, and the disappearance of Robson Figueiredo da Luz on April 23 of the same year. As already established, the crimes were committed as retaliation and “cleaning up,” in the context of a criminal organization involved in international drug trafficking and smuggling.

“These crimes were planned in a cruel and calculated manner, as a way to silence those who posed a risk to the structure of the criminal organization. Today's arrests are the result of meticulous intelligence and investigation work, which will continue until all those involved are held accountable,” said delegate Mhoab Khayan, regional superintendent.

The victims worked as a pilot and boat guard for the organization and became suspected of collaborating with security forces after the seizure of large drug shipments.

Among the police actions that may have motivated the murders are the seizure of 300 kilograms of cocaine on February 6, 2024, and 3 tons of narcotics on April 14 of the same year, in the Abaetetuba region.

According to the investigations, the leaders of the organization believed that the victims were installing trackers on the vessels, which enabled the seizures. This suspicion may have motivated the execution of Galileu and the disappearance of Robson.

Effective - The operation involved 41 civil police officers, who acted with the support of 11 vehicles and a boat. Teams from the police stations of Abaetetuba, Vila dos Cabanos (district of Barcarena), Moju, and Igarapé-Miri, as well as the Homicide Police Station of Abaetetuba, the Women's Police Station (Deam), the Specialized Police Station for the Care of Children and Adolescents (Deaca), the Investigation Support Center (NAI) of Abaetetuba, and the Special Resources Coordination (Core), participated in the action, under the coordination of the Regional Superintendency of Baixo Tocantins and the Directorate of Interior Police (DPI).

The arrested individuals were taken to the Homicide Police Station of Abaetetuba for necessary procedures and sent to the Penitentiary System, where they will remain at the disposal of Justice. Investigations continue to identify others involved in the crimes of homicide, international trafficking, money laundering, smuggling, and other related offenses.
