The Civil Police, through the Conceição do Araguaia Police Station, launched Operation 'Safe Childhood' and arrested three people involved in the crime of human trafficking for illegal adoption on Thursday (3). The arrests were supported by the Investigation Support Center (NAI) of Redenção, in southeastern Pará.

“The action began after receiving an anonymous tip informing that, on that same day, there would be an illegal sale of a child. According to the information provided, the crime was being orchestrated by a couple residing in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The woman of the couple had traveled to Conceição do Araguaia with the aim of taking a child approximately two months old,” explains delegate Hyago Carvalho.

During the investigations, it was found that the woman would attempt to formalize the adoption through fraudulent documents, such as a travel authorization and a power of attorney, supposedly signed by the biological mother of the child, in the name of a third woman.

In light of the facts, a Verification of Information Provenance (VPI) was initiated, and the civil police began efforts to locate those involved. On Thursday (3), the agents identified the couple's arrival at the city's bus station and identified the location where they intended to stay.

The police team also managed to identify the notary office where the adoption would be formalized using fraudulent documentation. The police officers went to the location, where they arrested the three individuals involved: the couple and the woman who had illegally consented to the delivery of the child. The baby was referred to the Guardianship Council and is receiving specialized care.

During the investigations, the civil police also identified a group on a social network with strong indications of involvement in the illegal sale of children. The group contained information about document forgery, such as certificates of life and death, supposedly issued in the name of potential buyers.

The arrested individuals were taken to the police unit for the necessary procedures, underwent a forensic examination, and remain at the disposal of the Justice. Investigations are ongoing, aiming to clarify all details of the case and dismantle any criminal networks involved in interstate child trafficking.

The conduct of the investigated individuals constitutes the crime of human trafficking for illegal adoption, as defined in Article 149-A, Section IV, of the Brazilian Penal Code.

The Civil Police emphasizes the importance of reporting cases of crimes against children and adolescents. Information can be reported anonymously through the numbers Disque 100 or Disque-Denúncia 181.
