The Civil Police launched, this Wednesday (2), Operation "Orthanc", aimed at dismantling a criminal organization linked to the Comando Vermelho faction and combating drug trafficking in the Tucuruí Lake region.

The action resulted in the arrest of 16 people in Tucuruí and the execution of 21 search and seizure warrants. During the execution of the arrest warrant, three of the suspects were also caught in the act of drug trafficking.

The operation was coordinated by the Regional Superintendence of Tucuruí Lake, with the support of the Investigation Support Nucleus (NAI), teams from the cities that make up the 9th Integrated Public Security Region (RISP), as well as units from Tomé-Açu, Concórdia do Pará, from the 10th RISP (Carajás) and the Military Police of Goiás (PMGO).

During the operations, police seized drugs such as marijuana and oxi, equipment used for trafficking, five vehicles (four motorcycles and one car), and several cell phones, which will support ongoing investigations.

According to delegate Erivaldo Campelo, responsible for the operation, the targets are part of a criminal structure with a consolidated presence in the region.

"This operation was the result of a thorough investigation that identified members of the Comando Vermelho faction directly involved in drug trafficking in Tucuruí. Many of those arrested held strategic positions in the organization. Today's operation is an important step to weaken this faction's activities in the region," highlighted the delegate.

In total, operations were carried out in the cities of Tucuruí, Concórdia do Pará, and Itumbiara, in Goiás, where one of the targets was located and arrested with the support of PMGO.

For the deputy general delegate of the PC, Temmer Khayat, the operation represents the institution's commitment to public safety and the fight against criminal factions in the state.

"Operation Orthanc reaffirms our commitment to act decisively against organized crime. The integration between Civil Police units and the support from other states shows that we are united in combating the factions that threaten the peace of our communities," emphasized Temmer.

The PCPA will continue the investigations to deepen the mapping of the criminal faction's activities in the region, seeking to identify other involved parties and strengthen qualified repression actions against drug trafficking.

The arrested individuals underwent the necessary procedures and are at the disposal of the Justice. The seized material has been sent for forensic examination.
