The action was in honor of World Environment Day

On the last day of June, the Dr. Waldemar Penna Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon (HRBA), in Santarém, western Pará, carried out an environmental action with patients and companions. The sustainability committee promoted the donation of seedlings to users who passed through the general reception of the unit.

The program was in honor of World Environment Day, celebrated on the 5th of this month, and aimed to encourage the planting and germination of plant and tree seedlings. "It is only fair to contemplate our users with this project. We didn't even have time to finish organizing, many people stopped and started asking about it. It was our first donation action of seedlings this year, and we want to repeat it every month," said the administrative supervisor and president of the HRBA sustainability committee, Wandria Quintino.

One of the patients who received seedlings was Helena da Mota Castro, 49, who lives in the municipality of Oriximiná, also in the western part of the state. She has been a patient at HRBA since 2013 and took advantage of the action to take home two plant seedlings. "I am taking a aloe vera and one with a pink leaf. I really like plants and found the action very beautiful, very rewarding. For sure, it is a very important action."

Sustainability - The seedlings were taken from the unit's own garden, which is also a reference in sustainability actions in the interior of Pará, aiming to avoid waste and reduce environmental impacts.

The Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon has projects for water reuse; reduction of chemical waste usage; has a vegetable garden and transforms organic waste into fertilizer; uses food without pesticides; invests in wind energy production; and also manages and recycles solid waste correctly, among other activities.

"We have already worked on other actions within the hospital, we have our garden project. We have our gardeners who support us from composting to planting and harvesting. Therefore, the seedlings are from our own garden, which is located in the external area of the unit. The donation was only possible thanks to the partnership of our gardeners and the sustainability committee," explained Wandria.

"Sustainability is a pillar of the Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon. We know the importance of caring for and preserving the environment and have projects to promote this in our daily lives. The donation of seedlings is another action in this direction. So that our patients and companions leave the unit with a gift that not only beautifies their home but also brings benefits to everyone. These are simple actions that make all the difference," emphasized the HRBA's general director, Matheus Coutinho.

Service - HRBA is a reference in medium and high complexity for a population of 1.4 million people residing in 29 municipalities, and provides 100% referenced services, meeting the demand originating from the State Regulation Center.

The unit belongs to the Government of Pará, being managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). It operates at Avenida Sérgio Henn, No. 1100, in the Diamantino neighborhood, in Santarém.
