With 68% of execution achieved this week, the works on the first sewage collection and treatment system in the Ver-o-Peso area are advancing in Belém. Conducted by the Government of Pará, the investment is one of the legacies of the United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will take place in the capital of Pará in November.

The Secretary of State for Public Works, Ruy Cabral, highlights the social impact of the project, which will improve the quality of life for the population living and working in one of Belém's main economic and tourist areas.

“In yet another work that is progressing on schedule, the sanitation project in Ver-o-Peso will bring safety and health to those who live and transit in this historic and highly frequented area of our capital. This is just one example of the service that is part of the extensive program involving macro-drainage and sanitation carried out by the state government as an investment, thanks to the realization of COP 30 in Belém,” emphasizes the head of Seop.

Historic work - It is the first time in history that the Ver-o-Peso area - which has been in operation for over 390 years - receives a project aimed at the proper treatment of sanitary sewage. The work is primarily carried out at night, between 8 PM and 5 AM, to avoid interfering with the commercial activities of the space.

The services already executed include excavation and laying of almost 1.7 kilometers of piping for the sewage collection network, backfilling and re-laying of cobblestones, as well as the restoration of over 1.5 kilometers of asphalt. Interventions have already been carried out on Travessa Campos Sales, Rua Quinze de Novembro, Boulevard Castilhos França, Travessa Padre Eutíquio, Travessa Ocidental and Travessa Oriental do Mercado, and Rua Gaspar Viana.

The sewage collected in Ver-o-Peso will be treated at the Una Sewage Treatment Station (ETE) in Belém, operated by the Pará Sanitation Company (Cosanpa). The work is the result of a partnership between the state and federal governments, through the Ministry of Cities and the Federal Savings Bank.
