The Government of the State of Pará, through the Military Fire Brigade and the State Civil Defense, delivered on this Friday (27) one thousand baskets of humanitarian aid and 450 personal hygiene kits to families in the municipality of Óbidos, in Baixo Amazonas, heavily affected by the intense rains that struck the region in the first months of the year. The emergency action responds to the state of emergency declared by the City Hall of Óbidos in March of this year, after several neighborhoods and rural communities suffered from flooding, flash floods, and landslides.

During the official agenda in the municipality, which also marked the delivery of the first Military Police barracks in Óbidos, Governor Helder Barbalho reinforced the state government's commitment to being present where the population needs it most. "We are here in Óbidos not only to talk about security with the delivery of the new Military Police barracks but also to take care of the people. One thousand baskets of food and hygiene kits are being delivered to families who need this support. It is the presence of the Government alongside society, close to those who need it most," said the governor.

The delivery of donations was coordinated by the Military Fire Brigade of Pará, through the State Civil Defense, which acts directly in disaster response actions. According to Colonel Celso dos Santos Piquet Jr., regional commander of the corporation, the mobilization was organized based on the alert issued by the Municipal Civil Defense in the S2ID system.

"Our action here in Óbidos is a response to the request from the Municipal Civil Defense. Based on the registration in the system, the State organizes the sending of aid as soon as possible to alleviate the suffering of the affected people. We closely monitor this situation, which unfortunately repeats itself in many municipalities during the rainy season. We constantly monitor and prioritize assistance according to the severity of each case in the region," he explained.

Integrated action - Since the beginning of the rains, the Municipal Coordination of Protection and Civil Defense of Óbidos has acted in an integrated manner with municipal secretariats to map risk areas and provide direct support to families.

The municipal coordinator Igor Ewerton highlighted that the planning began even before the situation worsened. "We conducted inspections, recorded occurrences, and worked with other secretariats to ensure assistance. Today, one thousand families are being benefited with the kits sent by the State Government. These are people who lost belongings, had their homes damaged, or live in vulnerable areas. The presence of the State Civil Defense was fundamental," assured the coordinator.

Affected families - Among the most affected neighborhoods is Perpétuo Socorro, where 62-year-old Célia da Silva Mota lives with her 44-year-old daughter, who is in a wheelchair. She recalls the moment of despair experienced during the storm.

"It rained heavily all day. Around five in the morning, I woke up startled by a huge noise. The water invaded and split my house in half. It was desperate. I live in Perpétuo Socorro, one of the most affected neighborhoods. We are being assisted by the Civil Defense, and this benefit arrived at a great time. I am very grateful," evaluated the housewife.

Also a resident of Perpétuo Socorro, Maria Abigail, 57, had her house structure compromised by the flash flood. "The house is all cracked. We are still living in it because we have nowhere to go. This kit will help a lot. The Civil Defense has been supporting us since the beginning," she said.

In the Santa Terezinha neighborhood, 39-year-old Daelia dos Santos was also one of the beneficiaries of the state government's aid. "I really need it. This basket will make all the difference now. It will help a lot," she said.

In addition to Perpétuo Socorro and Santa Terezinha, neighborhoods such as Fátima, São Francisco, Cidade Nova, Bela Vista, the city's waterfront area, and points in the rural zone also reported serious occurrences, with flooding and landslides that directly affected families.

The Civil Defense continues to monitor the urban and rural areas of Óbidos, keeping teams mobilized to meet the needs of the communities and ensure a quick response to new climatic events.
