The residents of the municipality of Marapanim are eagerly awaiting the delivery of the new waterfront of the city, built by the State Government. The works, which are in the final phase, will promote social, economic, and cultural impacts. The forecast is that the new public facility will be delivered in July, for the main tourist season of the region.

"Not only I, but all the residents of the region are looking forward to this delivery. Our municipality has never had a waterfront, and we know it will be a leisure space for families, a tourist space, and also a space for outdoor physical activities. We have no doubt that it will be beautiful and very pleasant to have a view of the river. This investment from the Government directly reflects on our quality of life, tourism, and the economy, and that is very important," highlights teacher Karla Moraes, a resident of Marapanim.

The new waterfront will feature a reinforced concrete protective wall along its entire length; stairway and ramp in reinforced concrete; snack bar; restrooms; wooden deck; kiosks; urbanization; and will also receive new electrical installations; deep drainage service; total recovery of the pier; sidewalks; tactile flooring; grass planting; and protective guardrails along the entire waterfront.

"Since 2019, the management of the Government of Pará has been investing in the construction and reconstruction of waterfronts in all regions of our State. These are public legacies that provide improvements to the social context, but also economic and tourist development, which are the vocations of our cities. Today, from the waterfronts that have already been delivered and those that are under construction, the State guarantees more infrastructure, sports, and leisure for the population, in addition to boosting and strengthening job and income generation for local commerce," emphasizes Ruy Cabral, Secretary of Public Works (Seop). Since 2019, 22 waterfronts have been delivered and another 13 are under construction.

Administrative assistant Joanice Silva, a resident of Marapanim, shares that the waterfront has always been a dream for the residents of the region. "We have always said that Marapanim needed a postcard, a view that would highlight our city. And when the works began, it was as if we were witnessing a dream coming true right there. It’s almost unbelievable; I never thought it would be possible for my city to have a project of this magnitude. We always wanted the governments to pay attention to our city, and when it finally happened, it’s a feeling of ecstasy, of seeing a dream becoming reality," she celebrates.

Goal - The State plans to achieve the goal of 34 constructed waterfronts by the end of 2026, considering that waterfronts demonstrate how focused interventions can generate a virtuous cycle of economic and social development, positioning Pará as a prominent destination on the national and international tourist map.
