The Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital (HRMJ) promoted, this Tuesday (24), an educational action aimed at raising awareness about the risks and prevention of falls during hospitalization. The initiative took place in the hospital's inpatient unit and is part of the activities commemorating the World Fall Prevention Day, a date established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and recognized by the official calendar of the Ministry of Health.

Targeted at patients and their companions, the activity focused on Patient Safety Goal 6, which specifically addresses fall prevention in the hospital environment. The responsible team presented an illustrated booklet with practical guidelines and conducted individualized conversations at the bedside, clarifying doubts and reinforcing essential care to avoid accidents.

“We provided important guidance on environmental care, proper use of safety devices, and simple strategies that make all the difference in fall prevention,” explained nurse Yasmin Franco, coordinator of the unit's goal 6 team.

User Eunara Reis de Miranda, 33, a resident of Alenquer and a companion of a patient in orthopedic pre-operative care, participated in the action and approved the initiative. “I found it very important. We received guidance that I never imagined and tips that help us feel safer here in the hospital,” she highlighted.

Among the main guidelines provided to patients are: attention to wet floor signage, use of handrails in bathrooms, bed locks, use of seat belts in wheelchairs, and, above all, the importance of requesting support from the nursing team whenever necessary, avoiding getting up alone.

According to quality nurse Fernanda Almeida, hospital falls can have serious consequences, especially in patients already weakened by illnesses or surgeries. “The act of falling may seem simple, but within a hospital it can lead to serious complications. Goal 6 aims to reduce this risk and further protect our patients and their companions,” she stated.

Actions like this are part of the patient safety goals established by the Ministry of Health and implemented by HRMJ, which reinforces its commitment to humanized care and the prevention of adverse events.

Structure and specialties - A reference in the Calha Norte region, the Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital has a modern structure, with 26 infirmary beds, an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and 16 reception beds. The unit offers services in seven medical specialties: anesthesiology, cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, traumatology, and intensive medicine.
