Belém will host the 5th State Conference on the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People this weekend
The event, to be held in the capital of Pará on June 27 and 28, serves as a preparatory stage for the National Conference

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Racial Equality and Human Rights (Seirdh), and the State Council for Sexual Diversity (Ceds), will hold the 5th State Conference on the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People on June 27 and 28. The event will take place at the David Mufarrej auditorium, located at the University of the Amazon (Unama), and will bring together representatives from civil society and public authorities to discuss local challenges and propose concrete solutions for issues related to the LGBTQIA+ community.
The State Conference will address advances and the need for more policies for the LGBTQIA+ population. Holding the event in Belém marks the strengthening of participatory democracy and the collective construction of these policies aimed at promoting human rights and citizenship for this segment of society.

Listening and building effective policies - For the state manager of Promotion of Sexual and Gender Diversity, Bárbara Oliveira, the realization of this event is of utmost importance. Over the two days, according to her, topics will be discussed that encompass LGBTQIA+ people from various locations around Pará, so that the specificities of different places in Pará are reflected in the guidelines that will guide the National Policy on the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People.
“These people will bring their demands, their local and territorial particularities. In this way, this can be included in a state public policy plan, and from this, we can present the demands of the population of Pará during the National LGBTQIA+ Conference. This is the greatest importance: to bring the demands, listen to the population, activists, and militants from collectives that also make this public policy work in their territories and collectives,” she explains.

Program - The first day will start at 8 am with the registration of participants, delegates, and observers, followed by the official opening and welcome. The program continues with the formation of the Board and approval of the internal regulations. The keynote lecture, with the theme "The challenges for the implementation of Public Policies in the face of the national and international context," will be given by Symmy Larrat, National Secretary for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People. This moment, according to Verena Moraes, head of the Conference Organizing Committee, is one of the most important of the ceremony.
“The main point is this keynote lecture with the National Secretary for the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People. She is from Belém do Pará, has a significant history of activism here, and is building and ensuring the rights of our population in Brasília, alongside the Council of LGBTQIA+ People, the Human Rights Secretariat,” she explains.
Following the keynote lecture, there will be a thematic panel on "The advances in the fight for human rights for LGBTQIA+ people in the State of Pará," with the participation of the director of Human Rights from Seirdh, Verena Arruda, Bárbara Pastana, and Beto Paes.
Starting at 2:10 pm, there will be debate meetings of the four Working Groups (GTs): combating violence; decent work and income generation; intersectionality and internationalization policies; institutionalization of the national policy on the rights of LGBTQIA+ people. The synthesis of GTs 1 and 3 will be presented at 5 pm, followed by the presentation of the synthesis of GTs 2 and 4 at 6:20 pm. The first day's closing is scheduled for 7:50 pm, with thanks and announcements.

The second day begins with registration for observers at 9 am. The first thematic panel will address "The Rise of Global Conservatism and the Persecution of the LGBTQIA+ Population, focusing on the Amazon," mediated by Regina Alice and featuring Gabriel Conrado, Hevelyn Maia, Rafael Carmo, and Vivi Reis.
At 10:30 am, the final plenary will be held with the presentation of the results of the approved proposals. After lunch, at 2:30 pm, Davi Almeida and Gabriela Borja will give a lecture on "Institutional policies aimed at access to employability and retention."
The event's closing will feature a thematic panel on "Pará heading towards the 4th National Conference on the Rights of LGBTQIA+ People," presented by representatives of the organizing committee of the state stage. One of the crucial moments will be the election of Delegated Persons at 4:50 pm. The conference will conclude with the closing remarks made by the Organizing Committee.
