As a reference in health services in the interior of Pará, the Regional Public Hospital of the East (HRPL), in Paragominas, maintains high satisfaction rates among users, exceeding 98%. The result reflects the management's commitment to the continuous qualification of the team and the constant improvement of care. Between January and May of this year, more than 14,500 hours of training were allocated to employees through 94 training sessions promoted by the Permanent Education Center (NEP).

This month, HRPL management carried out an important awareness action on hospital malnutrition through the Multiprofessional Nutritional Therapy Team (EMTN). The initiative was mainly directed at the nursing team and integrated the activities of "Green June", a campaign that reinforces the importance of prevention and tackling this condition.

The training, which received support from the general management, took place in the training room and included a lecture by nurse James Francisco dos Santos, former president of the Regional Nursing Council of São Paulo (Coren-SP), who addressed the impacts of malnutrition in the hospital environment and the fundamental role of nursing in identifying and preventing this condition.

Nutritionist Brenda Camelo, vice-president of EMTN, presented the national campaign "Say No to Malnutrition", from the Brazilian Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BRASPEN), which highlights 11 essential steps to tackle hospital malnutrition. She explains that, "hospital malnutrition is a frequent and often silent condition that affects hospitalized patients in various units, especially those in complex clinical situations. It occurs when the patient does not receive the necessary nutrients to maintain vital functions and respond adequately to treatment," she pointed out.

Brenda Camelo emphasizes that studies indicate that about 1 in every 2 hospitalized patients presents some degree of malnutrition, a number that can be even higher when nutritional screening is not conducted systematically. Hospital malnutrition is directly associated with an increased risk of various clinical complications, such as:

• Delay in wound healing;
• Increased risk of infection;
• Loss of muscle mass;
• Decreased immunity;
• Increased length of stay;
• Higher readmission rates;
• Compromised safe discharge.

Also participating in the action were nutritionists Renata Ferreira, Brenda de Oliveira, and Larissa Santos, representatives of the Clinical Nutrition and Nutrition and Dietetics services of the hospital. During the meeting, clinical cases were discussed, questions were clarified, and the importance of multiprofessional work was reinforced.

Approval – Hospitalized at HRPL for a surgical procedure, user Genivaldo da Silva e Silva, 49, praised the hospital's care and the meals offered. "This is the first time I have been hospitalized at HRPL, and everyone deserves congratulations; I am being very well taken care of. I really liked the food; sometimes it even reminds me of my mother's cooking. Congratulations to the kitchen team; the seasoning is very good. The attendants are also very polite and always have a smile on their faces; I feel very welcomed," said the driver.

Data – In 2025, from January to May, HRPL served exactly 98,637 meals to its users, companions, and employees.
