Photography, cinema, music, and of course, poetry, set the tone for the night last Tuesday, the 24th, at the Casa da Linguagem in the Nazaré neighborhood of Belém. The celebration paid tribute to the life and work of Pará poet Max Martins, director of the 'Casa' from 1991 to 2002, who would have celebrated his birthday on June 20.

Called the “Arraial das Letrinhas,” also in reference to the period when Max Martins was at the helm of the Casa da Linguagem, the event offered the public lectures, exhibitions, film screenings, a creative fair, and musical performances.

Lais Martins, granddaughter of Max Martins, highlighted her happiness with the tribute: “When I was a child, my grandfather brought me here for the workshops, so I always had this artistic vein from him. I am happy with the tribute,” she says.

Laís also reiterated the value of Max Martins' work for new generations: “To these kids, I ask that they study culture, because it is essential and opens many doors, and that is the best advice I can give. May they be inspired not only by him but also by our references from the North,” concludes the poet's granddaughter.

In addition to lectures and exhibitions, the tribute, which started at 3 PM and continued until 8 PM, was interspersed with poetry readings and video displays about Max Martins' work. There was also a sale of typical June foods, a book fair, and a creative economy fair, and even a scent bath.

Elaine Oliveira is a Cultural Management technician at the Casa da Linguagem: “This arraial has always been linked to the workshops, and Max was always connected to that,” she said.

“This arraial has always been linked to the workshops, and Max was always connected to that. We hold the event in celebration of his birthday, whose centenary is approaching. We know that events like this highlight the importance of young audiences experiencing art, and that is good,” concludes the Cultural Management technician at the Casa da Linguagem, Elaine Ferreira.
