Semas holds forum on environmental education for COP 30 in Altamira
The event featured representatives from indigenous communities, riverside dwellers, teachers, scientists, students, and public and private institutions
The State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) held, through the Regulariza Pará Program, the Regional Forum on Environmental Education "The Voices of the Municipalities in the International Plan", at the Altamira Convention Center (Xingu Integration Region), last week. The event aims to promote dialogue among municipalities in the region about experiences and strategies for environmental education, in the context of the 2030 Agenda, which establishes Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in addition to policies to combat climate change. The event gathered more than 300 participants.

Andreia Monteiro, coordinator of Environmental Education at Semas, reported that participants were able to describe the benefits they expect from the Forum and share their experiences.
“The event included the participation of indigenous communities, riverside dwellers, teachers, scientists, students, and public and private institutions, to contribute to the Forum's dialogues. The event also featured Professor Marco Sorrentino, Director of Environmental Education and Citizenship at the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, who presented environmental education actions, articulated to present some results at COP 30 (world conference on climate change), which will take place in November in the city of Belém,” said Andreia Monteiro.

Attitudes - In the lecture “Environmental Education and Social Engagement,” Semas addressed the construction of values, knowledge, skills, and attitudes that lead to environmental conservation and the promotion of sustainability.
“We carried out the construction of groups, divided into five thematic axes: local governance for strengthening environmental education management, public policies and environmental education management in municipalities; the challenges of environmental education in the face of climate emergencies; the Amazon factor as a protagonist of environmental education at the regional level, and regional integration and international articulation in environmental education, axes that had fundamental contributions to enrich the main dialogues of the Forum, a joint construction of all invited communities,” added the coordinator.
The event was held in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the Municipal Secretariat for Environmental Management of Altamira, and the Environmental Secretariat of Vitória do Xingu, with support from the Union of Mineral Industries of Pará (Simineral), EroBrasil Tucumã, the Amazon Environmental Research Institute (Ipam), and the North Energy Consortium.
