The final of the 1st Amazon Robotics Challenge will be held in Belém with projects on sustainability in the Amazon
Free event at Usina da Paz da Cabanagem will bring together ten finalist teams, with prizes of laptops and smartphones; initiatives combine technology, environment, and inclusion
The grand final of the 1st Amazon Robotics Challenge will take place next Saturday (28), from 8 am to 12 pm, at Usina da Paz da Cabanagem, in Belém. With free entry, the event will feature giveaways, awards for the champions, and prizes such as laptops and smartphones.
Ten finalist teams, coming from different regions of Pará, will compete for the title in two categories: Robot Arena and Innovation Project. In addition to battles between autonomous robots, students will present creative solutions to environmental problems related to the competition theme: "Sustainability in the Amazon and COP30." The goal is to stimulate the protagonism of Pará's youth in the global debates that will take place in Belém during the UN Climate Conference, scheduled for November.
The qualified teams represent state technical schools (EETEPAs), Usinas da Paz, and external institutions, demonstrating the diversity and reach of the initiative. Among the finalists are:
- SelvaTech and Nexus (EETEPA Tancredo Neves, Ananindeua)
- Veneza Bot and Robô das Águas (São Sebastião da Boa Vista)
- Parábots (EETEPA Francisco das Chagas Azevedo - Icoaraci)
- Dogo Warriors and Carimbótics (Belém)
- Alpha Mecatrônicos (Santo Antônio do Tauá)
- SIP Robotics (EETEPA de Santa Izabel)
- Icuí Tecnológico (Usina da Paz do Icuí, Ananindeua)
The teams were selected from 65 participants in the qualifying phase.
Organized by the Government of Pará, through the Secretary of Science, Technology and Higher, Professional and Technological Education (Sectet), the tournament is supported by the Guamá Foundation and the Federal University of Pará (UFPA).
According to the Sectet secretary, Victor Dias, the competition goes beyond encouraging robotics:
"We want to awaken students' interest in associating technology and the environment. Thinking of solutions for a sustainable future is contributing to keeping the forest standing and reinforcing respect for traditional peoples," he emphasized.
Technology, inclusion, and social transformation
In addition to fostering innovation, the Amazon Challenge has also promoted social inclusion. Daniel Figueiredo, who is autistic and a member of the Alpha Mecatrônicos team from Santo Antônio do Tauá, shares that participating in the competition has been a transformative experience.
"I learned that we can all be part of technology, regardless of any condition. Here, knowledge is valued, and respect is too," Daniel stated.
João Victor Santos Silva, 15 years old, is in the 1st year of the technical course in Computer Science at EETEPA Tancredo de Almeida Neves, in Ananindeua, and is part of the SelvaTech team, which is leading the overall ranking. He celebrates reaching the final as a collective achievement. "Our project proposes a real solution to an old problem: the lack of access to drinking water in riverside communities. We developed a filter that captures rainwater and makes it potable. It is gratifying to represent my school and my municipality. Our motto summarizes our purpose: 'Access to drinking water is a right, not a privilege,'" João declared.
