The State Secretariat of Culture (Secult) delivered, on Wednesday (18), the completion certificates to the students of the Introduction to Scenic Arts, Lighting, and Sound course, in a ceremony held at the Usina da Paz (UsiPaz) in Marituba. The qualification is part of the professional training policy aimed at strengthening the cultural production chain in Pará.

The initiative originated from a pilot project conceived by the State Secretary of Culture, Ursula Vidal, with the aim of incorporating technical training into the activities of the Usinas da Paz. The proposal included a specialized technical team, composed of experienced professionals in sound, lighting, and stage production.

Introductory in nature, the course aimed to prepare students for backstage work in cultural events, also addressing the growing demand generated by projects related to the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), which will be held in November in Belém. The training focused on the basic qualification of professionals for the technical areas of theater and audiovisual.

"This area of scenic arts is very scarce (in terms of labor), and with so many cultural projects approved for COP, we will have a very high demand. The idea was to create a technical base so that these students are ready to enter the job market as soon as possible,” highlighted Professor Maike Nascimento, responsible for the training.

The classes were held twice a week, and the curriculum covered everything from the fundamental concepts of scenic arts to the operation of sound and lighting equipment. With theoretical and practical activities, the course included technical visits and experiences in real setups, such as the opera Cobra Norato, presented at Theatro da Paz, where the professor has been working for seven years. The students had the opportunity to closely experience the backstage of production, operating stage curtains, lighting equipment, and sound systems, as well as learning about the structural and creative elements involved in staging performances.

In total, 12 students participated in the training at UsiPaz in Marituba, including residents of neighboring municipalities such as Castanhal and Benevides. Among the graduates, university student Reginaldo Silva, 27, stated that the experience reaffirmed his desire to work in this field. “My mother already participates in several workshops here at the Usina, so when she found out about this course, she immediately sent me, because she knew I really like sound, since I work with it at the church I attend. The certificate will undoubtedly open many doors, especially for the job market. I am very grateful,” he declared.

Students from the UsiPaz in the Cabanagem neighborhood were also certified in May 2025. About 11 students benefited. The Usina da Paz in Icuí will be next in certification with the Introduction to Scenic Arts, Lighting, and Sound course.
