The State Secretariat for Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) received on Wednesday (18) a group of ambassadors from Denmark, Norway, Finland, and Sweden, who came to Belém to learn about various government projects for the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP 30), which will take place in the capital of Pará in November this year.

Visit to the Semas monitoring room

During the visit to the Semas headquarters (Semas Bosque), the group had access to the environmental monitoring room, where high-performance technology equipment is installed. Jakeline Viana, Environmental Monitoring Coordinator at Semas, presented to the visitors the public policies and programs developed by the teams working on deforestation control and strengthening environmental governance, in addition to mentioning initiatives such as the State Amazon Now Plan (PEAA), the State Climate Change Policy of Pará (PEMC), the Rural Environmental Registry (CAR), and the Bioeconomy Plan (PlanBio).

“The visit from the Nordic embassy represents another opportunity to showcase the advances that Pará has achieved in building a more sustainable and inclusive economy. We presented concrete initiatives under the PEAA, such as PlanBio, the Sustainable Territories Valuation Program, and the Native Vegetation Restoration Plan, which demonstrate our commitment to developing robust public policies, integrating innovation, environmental protection, and valuing local populations,” highlighted Camille Bemerguy, Deputy Secretary of Bioeconomy at Semas.

The environmental programs of the Government of Pará were also presented to the ambassadors

Joint work - The ambassador of Sweden, Karin Wallensteen, highlighted the interest in visiting the monitoring room and assured the participation of her delegation in the global climate conference.

"As COP 30 will take place in the Amazon, it is very positive to know all these actions that are being taken for the protection of the Amazon rainforest. What we heard today from Semas is that there are robust programs, with various monitoring, financing, and development axes, and this is very important for the world. It is essential to know all aspects, in addition to the development that the State has promoted in terms of legislation and combating deforestation. Our delegation is fully interested in participating in this COP, which will be important not only for decision-making but also for the implementation of other decisions that have already been adopted. It is essential to work together for these solutions," said the ambassador.
