The deadline for registrations for the 13th edition of the Braztoa Sustainability Award, one of the most important initiatives recognizing responsible tourism projects in Brazil, ends this Wednesday, June 18. This year, the award will have a special significance for Pará: the award ceremony will be held in Belém in December, reinforcing the prominence of the Amazon region in environmental and tourism agendas, especially in the context of COP 30.

Promoted by the Brazilian Association of Tourism Operators (Braztoa), the award is supported by the State Secretariat for Tourism of Pará (Setur) and recognizes good practices that promote sustainability in the sector. Entrepreneurs, public managers, community leaders, and representatives of civil society organizations can still submit their projects for free online. The evaluation will be conducted by a national and international technical committee based on criteria such as social impact, environmental impact, innovation, replicability, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The 2025 edition highlights initiatives from the Amazon Region, which will receive additional points during the evaluation process. A new category, “Local Communities,” has also been created for projects led by indigenous peoples, riverside communities, quilombolas, and other traditional populations. Additionally, the categories “Management/Governance” and “Experience/Product” remain.

According to the Secretary of Tourism of Pará, Eduardo Costa, hosting the ceremony in Belém is a recognition of the state's commitment to sustainable development. “Belém hosting the Braztoa Sustainability Award ceremony is a recognition of the strength of Pará's tourism and our commitment to responsible, inclusive practices aligned with global sustainability challenges. It is a unique opportunity to project the Amazon as an international reference in conscious tourism, especially in the context of COP 30,” he stated.

Recently, a special live session was held by Braztoa with the participation of experts from the organization and the SPRINT Dados consultancy to guide interested parties on the registration process. During the virtual meeting, guidelines, selection criteria, and examples of awarded projects from previous editions were presented, along with clarifications of participants' doubts.

Setur has encouraged Pará's entrepreneurs to participate, recognizing the transformative potential of local practices aimed at environmental preservation, social inclusion, and cultural appreciation.

“We want to see Pará well represented among the winners, showing that tourism can indeed be a positive change agent for the territories,” concluded Eduardo Costa.
