A reference in medium and high complexity by SUS in Pará, Jean Bitar Hospital (HJB), in Belém, ended 2024 with 4,602 surgeries performed. From January to April of this year, there have already been 1,281 procedures, including Bariatric Surgery, Head and Neck, Transgenders, Colon, CPRE, Otorhinolaryngology, Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, among others.

To ensure the safety of these services, HJB, in partnership with the Foundation Center for Hemotherapy and Hematology of Pará (Hemopa), conducts regular blood donation campaigns. This action is essential to assist patients undergoing treatment and surgeries that require transfusions. Since 2016, when it began to be managed by the National Institute of Social and Human Development (INDSH) in partnership with Sespa, the hospital has been strengthening this initiative.

Only in 2024, the campaigns benefited about 1,016 patients. In the most recent action, held during Carnival, 70 bags of blood were collected. The care manager, Alexandra do Carmo, highlights: “We deal with high complexity cases. Having a stocked blood bank is essential for the continuity of care.”

Next Monday (16), HJB will participate in the round table “Hemopa and Hospital Network: A co-responsibility work in life prevention,” at the auditorium of the Hemocenter, in Belém. According to Alyne Pardauil, a technician from the hospital's Transfusion Agency, the current average is 65 transfusions per month. “HJB has stood out in attracting donors. Other units also need to take on this commitment,” she states.

Red June Campaign

On Wednesday (18), from 9 am to 4 pm, the Red June campaign will be held, in homage to World Blood Donor Day (6/14). The collection will take place at the mobile unit of Hemopa, in front of the hospital (Rua Cônego Jerônimo Pimentel, 543 – Umarizal).

Carlos Souza, 55 years old, a patient at HJB, praised the action: “I am being treated by a hematologist and was happy to learn about the campaign. I want to encourage my children and grandchildren to donate as well.”
