On the morning of this Friday (13), the Civil Police of Pará (PCPA), through the Directorate of Assistance to Vulnerable Groups (DAV) and the Delegacy for the Protection of the Elderly (DPPID), held the "Symposium on Violence and Vulnerabilities of the Elderly in the Face of Climate Change Impacts: Social Justice and Human Rights at COP30," at the Delegate Ione Coelho auditorium, at the headquarters of the General Delegacy, in Belém.

The event was organized in commemoration of the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, celebrated on June 15, as established by the United Nations (UN). The program included discussion circles among specialists and representatives of organized groups that work in defense of the elderly. The aim was to foster debates on the impacts of climate change on the lives of the elderly population and the challenges to guarantee their rights.

"Our proposal is aligned with the theme of COP30, the climate conference that will be held in Belém, and seeks to strengthen the role of the Civil Police in promoting social justice and human rights, especially regarding the elderly. Due to the importance of the theme, we managed to gather representatives from various institutions so that assistance to elderly victims of violence is provided in the most humane way possible," highlighted Delegate Vanessa Macedo, head of the DPPID.

The symposium was supported by the Police Academy (Acadepol), which provided support and structure for the event. The initiative reaffirms the commitment of the Civil Police of Pará to the protection of vulnerable groups and to the public debate of urgent issues that directly affect the well-being and dignity of the elderly population.
