June arrived with colors, smiles, and a lot of emotion at the Pediatric Clinic of the Gaspar Vianna Hospital (HC) in Belém. The traditional June festival held at the unit mobilized patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team in a moment of celebration that goes far beyond fun: it strengthens bonds and contributes to the emotional well-being of hospitalized children.

"It takes the focus off the illness and brings it to life: games, dances, typical foods, all of this brings back the childhood imagination," explains occupational therapist Karla Aita about the program.

For occupational therapist Karla Aita, who coordinated the event this year, bringing elements of childhood into the hospital environment has a direct impact on patients' recovery. "Everything that is part of a normal daily life for a child, when we can insert it into the hospital context, helps a lot. It takes the focus off the illness and brings it to life: games, dances, typical foods, all of this brings back the childhood imagination," she explained.

The program was carefully planned since the beginning of the year and developed throughout June, with workshops for customizing costumes, making invitations, and playful activities.

"Each little flag made, each stitch sewn carries memories and affections. It is a collective effort from a multidisciplinary team, with many categories involved. Today I coordinated, but we always take turns," Karla added.

"We bring what is happening outside — Easter, Mother's Day, June festival — into the hospital," explains educator Karen Xavier.

Educator Karen Xavier, who works in the hospital's pediatrics, also participated in the organization and highlighted the role of hospital pedagogy as a bridge between the external world and the clinical environment.

"We bring what is happening outside — Easter, Mother's Day, June festival — into the hospital. This prevents the child from feeling isolated and with the sensation of missing out on something. On the contrary: they participate, create, and give," she stated.

The children actively participated in all stages, from decoration to delivering invitations, with special moments of interaction with staff and collaborators from other sectors. "On the way down to deliver the invitations, we make sure that the professionals explain what they do. The mothers love to see this machinery that makes everything work. This further humanizes the care," Karen highlighted.

The June festival at the Pediatric Clinic reinforces the Hospital de Clínicas' commitment to humanized care, which values comprehensive care for childhood. More than a festive event, the celebration transforms hospitalization into a lighter, affectionate, and meaningful experience for children and their families.
