Health Demand Resolution Chamber surpasses 6,000 services in its first year with over 70% resolution rate

Service coordinated by the PGE, in partnership with other public agencies, speeds up access to consultations, exams, and therapies, avoiding judicialization

With one year of operation, the Health Demand Resolution Chamber (CRDS), coordinated by the Attorney General's Office of the State of Pará (PGE), has reached an important milestone: over 6,000 services provided and a resolution rate exceeding 70%. The integrated and pre-litigation work of the CRDS has ensured quick responses to health demands, such as scheduling exams, consultations, hospitalizations, and providing medications, preventing these issues from being taken to the Judiciary.

Created in May 2024, the CRDS brings together, in one space, representatives from the State Health Department (Sespa), the Municipal Health Department of Belém (Sesma), the State Public Prosecutor's Office (MPPA), the State Public Defender's Office (DPE), the Federal Public Defender's Office (DPU), the Court of Justice of Pará (TJPA), in addition to the PGE itself and the Municipal Attorney's Office of Belém (PGM). The goal is to offer quick and coordinated solutions for health demands of residents of Belém and patients hospitalized in capital units.

Mahira Barros, coordinator of the CRDS

“The Chamber is an institutional project led by the Attorney General's Office of the State of Pará (PGE), to provide faster and more efficient administrative solutions for health demands of users of the Unified Health System (SUS), from the municipality of Belém or hospitalized in the capital,” explained prosecutor Mahira Barros, coordinator of the CRDS.

According to her, the success of the initiative is the result of joint work among the involved institutions. “The results obtained in this first year were only possible thanks to the spirit of cooperation developed among the PGE, DPE, Sespa, Sesma, PGM, DPU, TJPA, and MPPA,” she emphasized.

Cleiciane Barros

Among the services already provided, a case that exemplifies the impact of the service is that of the housekeeper Cleiciane Barros, who sought the CRDS in November 2024 for support for her three-year-old son, who was being investigated for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) by the Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR). Unable to schedule the necessary exams through conventional means, she was advised to seek the Public Defender's Office, which referred her to the CRDS. There, she was able to schedule, on the same day, a CT scan and an electroencephalogram — essential for the child's diagnosis.

“I arrived, explained the situation, and it was here that I got the exams and therapies. The exams were scheduled on the same day and, five days later, he was already undergoing them. It was much faster here,” reported Cleiciane.

With the exams completed, she also obtained the recommended therapeutic evaluations, such as speech therapy and occupational therapy. Now, she is waiting for an appointment with a psychologist and psychiatrist. “It was the easiest way to resolve it, and I am succeeding,” she added.

The majority of the demands addressed by the CRDS so far are related to scheduling consultations, followed by exams and hospital transfers. With over 70% of requests resolved administratively, the model has contributed to alleviating the Judiciary and ensuring faster access to health services.

Challenges and next steps

The mission of the CRDS is directly aligned with that of the PGE: to promote justice and social development, ensuring access to fundamental rights, such as the right to health.

Despite the progress made, expanding the service to other municipalities in Pará is the next challenge. The expansion is already in the current management's plans and represents a fundamental step to consolidate the model and strengthen access to health throughout the state.

Service

The CRDS operates from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 12 pm, at Avenida Conselheiro Furtado, 616 – annexed to the headquarters of the PGE, in the Batista Campos neighborhood, in Belém. The service is aimed at residents of Belém and patients hospitalized in the capital.

In addition to in-person service, the public can contact via WhatsApp at (91) 98452-6642 or by landline at (91) 3342-6804. To use the service, it is necessary to present basic documents, such as ID, CPF, SUS card, and updated medical report.

The Chamber also provides a booklet with detailed guidelines on the types of demands addressed, required documents, and the service flow. The material can be accessed on the PGE website.
