On the morning of this Tuesday (10), the Civil Police of Pará launched Operation "Jade Dragon" to execute a search and seizure warrant and another for preventive arrest against a suspect of aggravated torture. The police action was carried out by the team from the Child and Adolescent Protection Police Station (DPCA) with the support of the Child and Adolescent Service Division (DATA), in Belém.

The warrants issued by the 1st Court of Police Inquiries and Precautionary Measures of Belém were executed at the suspect's residence, located in Belém.

Understand the case

On January 29 of this year, the man was arrested in the act by the team from the Specialized Division for Women's Assistance (DEAM) in Belém, after threatening his wife with a knife. At the time, the victim reported that she was constantly assaulted by her husband and that the assaults extended to the couple's four children, aged 11, 9, 7, and 4 years old.

Based on the victim's reports, through specialized listening, a police inquiry was initiated to investigate the crime of bodily injury against the children. "During our investigations, it became clear that the suspect's conduct exceeded the hypothesis of bodily injury or mistreatment. He took advantage of his authority as a father to intentionally cause physical and psychological suffering to the children in the form of personal punishment, constituting the crime of aggravated torture," detailed delegate Caroline Batista, head of the DPCA.

At the time of the searches conducted at the suspect's residence, videos were collected showing various injuries on the victims' bodies, as well as footage in which the children themselves were asking for help.

"One fact that caught our attention is that one of these videos was produced by the suspect himself, who made a point of filming the moment he assaulted his daughter, slapping her in the face and lifting the child's shirt to display the various bruises, showing a kind of satisfaction with the act. After the recordings, he sent the videos to his mother, who is in China, as a way to boast and show his power over the family," continued the delegate.

The testimonies revealed that the children suffered assaults with a metal bar, broom handle, and hangers, in addition to physical punishment. The only female child even had her hair shaved against her will.

"After collecting all the necessary information, the DPCA team requested the preventive arrest of the suspect for the crime of aggravated torture. The cell phone was seized to collect files and other elements related to the domestic violence committed by him. After the legal proceedings, the suspect was sent to SEAP, where he remains at the disposal of the Justice. The seized cell phone was sent for forensic examination," emphasized delegate Emanuela Amorim, head of the Vulnerable Groups Assistance Directorate (DAV).

Jade Dragon - The name of the operation refers to the two sides of police work involving vulnerable individuals. On one side, the dragon, which in Chinese culture represents authority, power, and justice. On the other side, Jade, which represents a fragile treasure to be treated with care and attention.
