First neuroendoscopic surgery at HMPA ensures quick recovery and restores quality of life to the patient
Patient discharged after first high-complexity neurosurgery for the removal of a pituitary tumor
The Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) achieved a historic milestone in state public health by performing, for the first time, a high-complexity neurosurgery. The protagonist of this achievement is housewife Sueli Brito, from Ipixuna do Pará, who was discharged from the hospital on Monday (9), after showing stability in her recovery.
After three years of suffering and waiting for treatment, Sueli did not hide her joy with the result. “The surgery was very good, with competent doctors and a specialized team. Everything went very well. I am very happy with the treatment and the efficiency. Everyone at the hospital welcomed me with a lot of care and love. Now I am looking forward to seeing my grandchildren and being able to continue my life without that pain I felt,” she reported emotionally.
The surgery, considered high-complexity, was performed to remove a tumor from the pituitary gland — a small gland located at the base of the brain, responsible for important hormonal functions. The procedure was conducted by neurosurgeon Luiz Batista and performed using a minimally invasive technique, which ensured a faster and safer recovery for the patient.
“We used an endoscopic technique, done through the nose, to access the base of the brain and remove the tumor without large incisions. This method reduces risks and accelerates the recovery process. For this, the joint work between neurosurgery and otorhinolaryngology was essential, ensuring the safety and success of the surgery,” explained the specialist.
For the doctor, this advancement represents a new standard in care for Pará women who need complex treatments. “Having this service available here is essential to provide the best possible treatment. This is the reference of excellence in women's health care,” reinforced Luiz Batista.
The general director of HMPA, intensivist doctor Nelma Machado, highlighted the importance of the achievement. “This type of surgery requires not only cutting-edge technology but also highly qualified professionals. Offering this service in the public network is a source of great pride. We closely monitored Sueli's progress and are happy with the result,” she stated.
Sueli's discharge symbolizes an important advancement in the provision of high-complexity health services for Pará women, especially those who, like her, come from rural municipalities in search of specialized care.
