Regional Hospital of Santarém is a reference in cardiac catheterization in Baixo Amazonas
From January to May of this year, the Hospital performed 380 fundamental exams for the treatment of heart diseases

Josias dos Santos Araújo, 66 years old, is from the municipality of Placas, in southwestern Pará, and went to Santarém, in the western region of Pará, to undergo a cardiac catheterization exam at the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas Dr. Waldemar Penna (HRBA).
He has been monitoring a heart condition since 2014, and the procedure is essential for the patient's treatment. "Everything went well. Everyone treated me very well, and the exam was quick," he approved.
As a reference in medium and high complexity, the Baixo Amazonas Hospital has a cardiac catheterization hemodynamics service in the region. From Monday to Friday, the unit receives patients for the procedure, which involves the introduction of a thin, flexible tube - called a catheter - into a blood vessel until it reaches the heart, for the evaluation and treatment of diseases.

"Daily, we perform about five cardiac catheterization exams here at the hospital. It is a diagnostic exam; we generate images with contrast and assess if there is any point of obstruction in the heart vessels, whether it is a mild, moderate, or more severe obstruction. From there, we define the treatment, whether it will be with medications or if we will have to perform a surgical intervention. The catheterization is the initial step to know with 100% accuracy what is happening inside the coronary arteries. It is the best exam to define the conduct for patients," explained the clinical and interventional cardiologist José Soares, who is part of the HRBA hemodynamics team.
Procedures - From January to May of this year, the Regional Hospital of Santarém has already performed 380 cardiac catheterizations. The average is 76 exams per month. The unit serves both patients with more severe conditions who need the procedure urgently and users in lighter treatment, who are regulated by the State Department of Public Health (Sespa) electively. The exams are performed quickly and safely for the users.

The hemodynamics service has three specialist doctors and a prepared team of nurses and technicians who perform the procedures every weekday. In addition to cardiac catheterization, HRBA also performs coronary angioplasty, limb arteriography, cerebral angiography, and cava vein filter implantation.
"HRBA has established itself over time as a pioneer in the medical specialties offered to the population, including cardiovascular exams and surgeries. Regarding catheterization, we have a specific goal for this procedure and perform it routinely. Certainly, this brings a new era for cardiology in the region, especially due to the diagnoses and treatments that are carried out based on this exam, which is so important and that we offer here in our unit," highlighted the hospital's general director, Matheus Coutinho.

Service - The Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas provides 100% referenced service, meeting the demand originating from the State Regulation Center.
The unit belongs to the Government of Pará, being managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), and is located at Avenida Sérgio Henn, No. 1100, Diamantino neighborhood, in Santarém.
