Company openings in Pará rise 27% in the first months of 2025; retail and services lead
Entrepreneurship gains strength in the state, driven by deregulation and new opportunities

The formalization of businesses in Pará continues to rise in 2025. Between January and May, 44,616 new companies were opened, an increase of 27% compared to the same period in 2024, when 35,282 new businesses were registered. The data is from the Commercial Board of Pará (Jucepa). Retail and services lead the movement, reflecting a favorable scenario for entrepreneurs and micro-entrepreneurs.

Retired teacher Maria de Nazaré Moreira da Silva, 64, is among the entrepreneurs from Pará. Passionate about handicrafts and dye manipulation, she decided to turn a hobby into a business. Thus, the Aromatic Amazon Banquet was born, a brand of botanical perfumery and wellness products made from Amazonian ingredients.
What started as an unpretentious pleasure in transforming raw materials into aromatic products gained shape and identity over the years. “I have always been passionate about seeing something simple become art. The dyes are my enchantment. The smell, the texture, the transformation, all of this moves me,” says Maria de Nazaré.
She began to showcase her products at circular fairs focused on the creative economy and conscious consumption. The public's response motivated her to formalize the business. “The feedback from people was essential. I understood that it was not just a product — it was an experience, a olfactory memory of the forest.”
The brand gained strength by embracing the motto “Standing Forest, Sustainable Practices, and Women Entrepreneurs.” At the heart of the proposal is the appreciation of Amazonian biodiversity and female empowerment, pillars that connect directly with the discussions surrounding COP30, which will take place in Belém in November. “The conference brings a new energy for those who undertake consciously. It is the chance to show the world what we have and what we want to preserve,” says the artisan.
Micro-entrepreneurs lead growth
The increase in company openings in Pará is primarily led by Individual Micro-entrepreneurs (MEIs), who accounted for 33,869 registrations between January and May of this year. Micro-enterprises (MEs) also grew, with 7,344 registrations during the period, compared to 6,915 in the same interval of 2024.
According to the president of Jucepa, Filipe Meireles, the increase is a direct result of the processes and policies implemented by the State Government in partnership with the agency, aimed at encouraging the formalization of businesses. “We are reaping the fruits of a more agile and accessible structure. Jucepa has invested in digital solutions that reduce bureaucracy and bring the entrepreneur closer to their goal of opening a formal business in a few days,” he details.
Another positive sign is the reduction in the number of closed companies: 12,302 closures were registered from January to May 2025, compared to 13,190 in the same period of 2024. This reinforces the resilience and consolidation of businesses in the state.

Commerce and services lead the ranking: Belém, Ananindeua, and Parauapebas concentrate the highest volume
The most recurring activities among new businesses continue to be related to commerce and services. Retail trade of clothing and accessories leads the ranking, followed by sales promotion, courier services, and beauty salons. Among the municipalities, Belém stands out as the main entrepreneurship hub in Pará, with 11,274 new companies opened, followed by Ananindeua and Parauapebas.
Jucepa's expectation is that the pace will be maintained in the coming months, supported by actions aimed at entrepreneurial education and ongoing initiatives to deregulate processes. “Pará is experiencing a favorable moment for those who want to undertake. Formalization is no longer a barrier, but a simple and strategic step to grow,” concludes Meireles.
