Uepa Ambiental holds event in honor of World Environment Day
Throughout the next week, lectures and workshops will be held for the academic community, in addition to the collection of electronic waste

Until June 17, 2025, the State University of Pará (Uepa) is promoting the 2nd Environment Week, organized by Uepa Ambiental, with the theme "Waste management and climate change: the role of Uepa, COP 30, and the commitment to a sustainable future." The program includes lectures, workshops, and practical activities aimed at ecological awareness, such as the implementation of Ecopoints and Voluntary Delivery Points (PEVs) for the collection of cooking oil on the campuses of the Center for Social Sciences and Education (CCSE) and the Center for Biological and Health Sciences (CCBS).
This Friday, the 6th, the action team was at the university's Rectory to carry out the collection of electronic waste. Employee Fernanda Martins participated in the initiative and commented: “I knew I couldn't throw these appliances in the regular trash, but I also didn't know where I could dispose of them, so this action helps us become aware of what electronic waste is and is a great opportunity for us to bring the waste we have at home.” The collection of electronic waste is being done in partnership with Cikla Gestão Ambiental and the Alachaste Institute, which will ensure the correct disposal of the collected items.
According to Carla Linhares, a technician at Uepa Ambiental, “our program this month has been focused on campaigns, with workshops, lectures, and other actions across all campuses in the capital and also in Ananindeua. This year we expanded, we are implementing Ecopoints also on the campuses in the capital and two cooking oil collection points, at CCSE and CCBS.” Initially, the Ecopoints will serve the academic community for the disposal of recyclable waste.
The activities of the 2nd Environment Week began on the 2nd, at the XXII campus of Uepa, in Ananindeua, with the collection of electronic waste and the lecture "Waste management and climate change: the role of Uepa, COP 30, and the commitment to a sustainable future."
On Thursday, the 5th, the waste collection was held at the Planetarium of Pará. Electronic waste, such as cameras, tablets, cell phones, televisions, batteries, and chargers, will be collected on the 9th at the Center for Social Sciences and Education, on Djalma Dutra street, in Telégrafo; on the 10th, at campus III, on João Paulo II avenue; on the 11th, at the Center for Biological and Health Sciences; at Perebebuí street with Almirante Barroso, both campuses in the Marco neighborhood; on the 16th at campus IV, the Magalhães Barata Nursing School, on José Bonifácio avenue, in Guamá; and finally, on the 17th, at the Center for Natural Sciences and Technology, on Enéas Pinheiro street, in Marco.
Thematic workshops such as “Composting Group,” “Recycling with Art,” and “Green Nursing” are part of the agenda, along with educational activities on sustainability and conscious disposal. The proposal is to raise awareness among students, staff, and society about the importance of environmental care.
Débora Sandim, an environmental engineer and member of Uepa Ambiental, emphasizes that this year's edition focuses on strengthening partnerships with other sectors of the university, expanding the reach of environmental education. “We are going to carry out an action bringing the issue of environmental education, with a puppet workshop, planting seedlings, the children will utilize PET bottles, painting the pots, and also a composting workshop. So the program has this vision of expanding and reaching all audiences, technical staff, and also external children.”
With a comprehensive and collaborative approach, Uepa Ambiental reaffirms its commitment to sustainable practices and to forming a more conscious and engaged university community in environmental causes.
