Regional Hospital of Marabá promotes sustainable action with playful activities and lectures
Unit reinforces the importance of preserving natural resources for good human health
The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, promoted an educational action full of colors, knowledge, and traditions on Wednesday (4), in celebration of World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5. In a festive atmosphere, employees and patients participated in environmental awareness practices.
"I found the action interesting; I learned things I never imagined the hospital does to help the environment. It’s not just about taking care of people's health, but also of nature," commented Francisca Silva, a resident of Marabá in the Carajás region, who was referred to undergo laboratory tests at the Government of Pará unit.
The initiative, promoted by the Sustainability and Solid Waste Management Committees of the unit, transformed the hospital corridors into a space for learning and reflection on caring for the environment. The program included interactive activities, quizzes, and lectures that combined fun with preservation.
Felipe Mesquita, an administrative employee of the hospital, approved the initiative and highlighted the importance of combining information and environmental responsibility at work. "We realize that small actions make a difference. I learned that at the hospital there is a care that goes beyond the health of patients; we have a commitment to the future of the planet," he emphasized.
Nayra Christina Moreira, responsible for organizing the action, emphasized that the event was designed to awaken environmental awareness in a light, participatory manner aligned with the institution's values. "Our goal is to show that sustainability is also part of caring for life. Every action counts, whether inside the hospital, in our home, or in the community. Promoting this more attentive look at the environment is essential for us to build a better future," she highlighted.
Sustainability is part of caring for life
In addition to comprehensive care for patients, the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará also adopts sustainable practices in its routine. The unit is managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), and, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), the Institute ensures that the management of the hospital has a vision that unites health, well-being, and care for the environment. Through the Sustainability and Solid Waste Management Committees, the hospital develops actions that promote the conscious use of resources, the correct disposal of waste, and the awareness of employees, patients, and the community.
The hospital's executive director, Flavio Marconsini, highlighted that sustainability is part of the institutional mission and is reflected in the daily practices of the unit. "Here, we develop projects like More Green, Less White, which encourages the reduction of paper use, as well as the reuse of water from air conditioning units, applied in cleaning patios and irrigating gardens. We also maintain an active program for selective collection and proper management of solid and organic waste, reaffirming our commitment to the health of people and the planet," he explained.
"Caring for health also means caring for the environment. Our mission is to promote quality of life, and this is only possible when we look to the future in a sustainable, conscious, and responsible way," concluded Marconsini.
