Agents from the integrated team of the Antonio Lemos River Base, linked to the State Public Security and Social Defense Secretariat (Segup), arrested a man for illegal possession of a firearm during an inspection of the river network in the Western Marajó region on the morning of this Thursday (5). A .380 caliber firearm and ammunition were found with him. The approach was made by agents from the River Grouping (GFLU) and the Military Police.

The seizure occurred during the search of a small vessel with three crew members, who departed from the municipality of Portel, in Marajó, heading to the Village of Antônio Félix, located near the Jacarezinho River, also in the archipelago. When they began searching the backpacks and luggage they were carrying, the security agents found the weapon, along with a magazine containing nine intact rounds. After questioning, one of the men admitted to being the owner.

The inspection was part of the Border and Boundary Protector operation, which is included in the National Program to Combat Criminal Organizations, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP), with the involvement of state public security. In addition to combating crime, the operation also addresses environmental offenses in the Northern region.

Ualame Machado, head of Segup, emphasizes the performance of the teams in dismantling criminal activity and preserving social well-being. “The inspections being carried out on the rivers of Pará are essential to preserve state security and, above all, the safety of the communities that live and move through the river network of Marajó,” pointed out the secretary.

After the seizure, the man was taken for the necessary procedures to be followed.
