Documentary about Rita Lee arrives at Cine Líbero Luxardo this Thursday
This week's programming also includes the return of the award-winning "Manas" and restored screenings of "Saneamento Básico" and "Ilha das Flores"
Starting this Thursday (5), Cine Líbero Luxardo will host a special program celebrating great names of national culture with premieres, returns, and re-releases of landmark productions in Brazilian cinema. The highlight of the week is the highly anticipated premiere of the documentary "Ritas," which offers an intimate and unprecedented portrait of the iconic artist Rita Lee.
Narrated by the singer herself, the documentary goes beyond the stage to explore her personal life, her relationship with art, and the cultural impact of her presence in Brazilian music, especially in national rock, where Rita Lee was a pioneer in breaking paradigms and in female representation. The production is built from testimonials, rare images, and interviews, transforming into a powerful and sensitive tribute to the artist.

In addition to the premiere of "Ritas," the award-winning feature "Manas," directed by Marianna Brennand, returns to the cinema's programming. The film sensitively and firmly addresses the reality of sexual abuse faced by women in the Marajó region of Pará. The work follows the journey of overcoming and resistance of the protagonists, who seek to break the cycle of violence and rebuild their lives amidst an adverse social context. The feature has been widely recognized for its compelling and necessary approach.

Completing the programming, Cine Líbero Luxardo brings back to the big screen two iconic productions of national cinema in restored 4K quality. The re-release of the comedy "Saneamento Básico, o Filme" (2007), starring Fernanda Torres, Wagner Moura, and Camila Pitanga, offers the audience a humorous critique of the absence of public policies. In the plot, residents of a community decide to produce a video with the only resources available to try to solve a real sanitation problem: the construction of a septic tank.

In the same line of social critique, the short film "Ilha das Flores" (1989), directed by Jorge Furtado, also integrates the programming. Recognized as one of the greatest Brazilian shorts of all time, the film addresses with irony and impact themes such as consumerism, social inequality, and human dignity, starting from the journey of a simple tomato. The work is widely studied in schools and universities, being a landmark of political and experimental cinema in Brazil.
With a selection that unites memory, resistance, and innovation, Cine Líbero Luxardo reaffirms its role as a space for valuing national cinema and critical debate through art.
