Oriximiná Regional Hospital promotes lecture on eating disorders for outpatient clinic patients
The action involved the multidisciplinary team of the hospital that provided information to outpatient users
The Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital (HRMJ) held an educational lecture this week aimed at patients treated in the outpatient clinic of the unit, in commemoration of World Eating Disorders Awareness Day.
The date, established in 2015 by the Academy for Eating Disorders, aims to increase public knowledge on the subject and offer support to those affected by these disorders.
The activity was conducted by nutritionist Deodoro Lago, a member of the hospital's multidisciplinary team. During the lecture, the professional addressed the importance of balanced nutrition and daily health care.
“I provided clarifications to patients and companions on how to eat properly, avoiding excessive consumption of sugar and ultra-processed foods, which can trigger eating disorders,” explained the nutritionist.
He also emphasized the importance of self-care. “It is essential for people to know indicators such as weight, body mass index, and fat percentage, so they can monitor their health and prevent future problems.”
Among the participants in the activity, the initiative was well received. Rosalba Barbosa da Luz, who was accompanying a patient undergoing an endoscopy, praised the content presented. “The lecture was great. Everything that was said makes sense regarding inadequate nutrition for us users. It was very enlightening,” she stated.
Psychologist Marcione Almeida also contributed to the activity, highlighting the emotional impacts related to food. “Our emotions directly influence our food choices. Often, we seek satiety and comfort in food, which can become a problem when done indiscriminately,” she explained.
For her, the path to prevention lies in changing habits. “An active lifestyle that encourages the construction of a positive body image, but without guilt and standards, focusing primarily on the quality of life of that individual,” she concluded.
Reference in public health - Inaugurated just eight months ago, the Oriximiná Menino Jesus Regional Hospital is already establishing itself as a reference in public health in the western region of Pará. The unit exclusively serves users of the Unified Health System (SUS) and has 26 inpatient beds and an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), in addition to 16 beds for initial care and patient follow-up.
The hospital offers services in seven medical specialties: anesthesiology, cardiology, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, traumatology, and intensive medicine. Its operations are strengthened by a multidisciplinary team composed of nursing, pharmacy, physiotherapy, nutrition, psychology, and social service professionals, focusing on a comprehensive and humanized approach to care.
