After a month and 22 days of hospitalization at the Barcarena Maternal and Child Hospital Dr. Anna Turan, logistics assistant Luana Silva and her son Luiz Miguel were discharged on Friday (30). A premature baby born at 29 weeks, weighing 1.430 kg, the newborn treated, during this period, complications resulting from perinatal asphyxia.
“From the beginning, there was a lot of care for my baby and me, the entire team is very attentive and welcoming, providing all the support we needed during this very delicate moment. The humanized care made me trust even more that everything would be fine, and he would leave the hospital well. In each care, I saw that my baby was improving and reacting well, and this made me more hopeful every day, so I can only express gratitude to the entire team at the Barcarena Maternal and Child Hospital,” she says.
The Barcarena Maternal and Child Hospital is a reference in high-risk care for pregnant women, parturients, and newborns from 11 municipalities in Baixo Tocantins, enabling access to high-complexity services for patients who previously had to travel to Belém or other municipalities in the Metropolitan Region. The unit is strategic for the State Government in reducing maternal and infant mortality.
The general director of the Barcarena Maternal and Child Hospital, Poliana Rodrigues, emphasizes that the unit develops continuous work to ensure safe, welcoming, and humanized care for patients. In addition to adopting practices based on woman- and family-centered care, it offers support from prenatal to postpartum.
“The maternity encourages normal delivery whenever possible, respecting the woman's choices and providing a calm environment, with the presence of a companion, non-pharmacological pain relief methods, and encouragement of skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth. We have a prepared multidisciplinary team and actions to promote breastfeeding, with welcoming rooms and active listening. We reinforce our commitment to the health and well-being of the mother and baby, strengthening family bonds from the very first moments of life,” highlights the director.
