State Emergency Room inaugurates ‘Hospital Mobile Library’ to assist in the recovery process of patients
The initiative aims to provide reading and its benefits in the hospital environment with humanization, well-being, and support in the recovery of patients amidst hospital procedures

Delighted and with attentive looks, the patients hospitalized in the wards of the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM), in Belém, enjoyed a very special afternoon through the first experience with the “Hospital Mobile Library” at the bedside. The experience was lived by the patients this Monday (2).
Organized by the Hospital Humanization Commission (CHH), the initiative seeks to provide reading and the benefits in the hospital environment with humanization, well-being, and support in the recovery of patients amidst hospital procedures.
According to Watuzi da Silva, humanization analyst of the institution, the project is based on the purposes of “Humanizing the hospital environment that reduces the stress and anxiety of patients and companions, providing moments of leisure and relaxation with reading. In addition, it promotes social interaction and emotional well-being that makes the stay in the Emergency Room more pleasant and less exhausting.”

The professional emphasizes that the Library seeks to encourage the habit of reading, especially among children and adults who do not have easy access to literature.
“Using reading as a therapeutic tool aids in the recovery process as a transformative agent that often feels anxious in the face of illness and hospitalization, that is, there are emotional, cognitive, and affective benefits.”

Through a “shelf cart,” the first action made available a collection of 400 books donated by professionals from the Emergency Room, who also acted as multipliers to their family members and friends who participated in the project by donating books ranging from children's literature to comic books, word search games for adults, and coloring books for children.

Among the participants who received books, Natani dos Santos, 11 years old, an avid reader, chose a book to make her hospitalization time more pleasant. Her mother, Natali dos Santos, 46 years old, highlights the importance of the event.
“This project brings a magical world to children. Especially for her, enchanted by reading. So, for the other days she will be hospitalized, it will further reduce the hospital's adrenaline with this dynamic. Natani is a child who likes to study, and bringing the library to her will be a differentiator in her recovery. It is not easy to stay inside the hospital, and if there is nothing to distract, the child gets stressed. I thank the Emergency Room for this moment of humanization.”
The next editions will go through the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the Yellow Room.
