The Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of Pará (Emater) participated on Thursday (29) and Friday (30) in the Community-Based Tourism and Bioeconomy Workshop, a strategic action promoted by the State Secretariat for Tourism of Pará (Setur) with the support of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa).

The event took place in the auditorium of Embrapa Amazônia Oriental, in Belém, with the aim of strengthening the understanding of Community-Based Tourism (CBT) as a tool for sustainable local development, as well as fostering inter-institutional articulations around the public policy of CBT.

During the two days of the workshop, technicians from Emater, Embrapa, and Setur discussed central themes such as the conception of CBT, its links with family farming and bioeconomy, as well as the elements that make up this productive chain. Good practice cases were also presented, and proposals for joint actions between institutions were built.

For Márcio Nagaishi, forest engineer (Uaterp/Emater), the workshop achieved its main objective, which was to work on the notions of how to develop a tourist itinerary, the tourist map, among others. He also mentioned that it was possible to discuss rural extension policy and institutional instruments at the state level with Setur.

A proposal was made to work on a technical cooperation agreement to be established between Emater and Setur to work on community-based tourism, with the involvement of both institutions.
