The Pará Center for Hemotherapy and Hematology Foundation (Hemopa), in partnership with the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (Ufra), held a blood donation campaign on Wednesday and Thursday (27 and 28) at the Belém Campus, located in the Terra Firme neighborhood. The action used the mobile collection unit from Hemorrede, aiming to facilitate access and encourage participation from students, teachers, staff, and residents of the region.

With this initiative, the Hemopa Foundation reinforces its strategy of decentralizing collections and getting closer to the young audience, promoting awareness about the importance of voluntary and regular blood donation to ensure the supply of hospital units in the State.

The campaign is part of the Foundation's calendar of external actions, which seeks partnerships with higher education institutions to mobilize new donors and train multipliers of the solidarity gesture. Ufra, a traditional partner of Hemopa, welcomed the initiative in its academic space, contributing to logistics and internal mobilization.

For Ivanna Nascimento, manager of the Health and Quality of Life Division at Ufra, the partnership is essential to strengthen the ties between the university and the community. “Donating blood is a very important act because it contributes to thousands of lives that need this support. The university has been in this partnership with Hemopa for a few years now, and once again, we mobilized the academic community to participate. We are hopeful of achieving a significant number of blood bags,” she emphasized.

Perla Santa Rosa - social worker at the Hemopa Foundation

According to Perla Santa Rosa, social worker at the Donor Recruitment Management of the Hemopa Foundation, the campaign aims, in addition to collection, to stimulate the culture of donation among university students. “Our expectation is to collect 100 bags today and 100 bags tomorrow. We made a very strong articulation and managed to reach a significant number of students. I believe the campaign will be a success,” she stated.

Among the donors, student Gabriela Montelo shared her satisfaction in participating in the action. “This experience was extremely significant for me. I have always wanted to donate, but I confess that I lacked that incentive, that mobilization that really motivates us to act. And that’s exactly what Ufra provided: a welcoming, informative environment that made us understand the importance of stepping out of our comfort zone to help others. I realized that, in addition to academic training, the university also teaches us about empathy, solidarity, and commitment to society,” she reported.

In addition to the collection, the Hemopa team also conducted educational activities, clarifying doubts about who can donate, the necessary precautions before and after donation, and the safety of the procedure.
