In order to strengthen environmental management and ensure the sustainable use of the Atalaia Natural Monument in Salinópolis, another Ordinary Meeting of the Management Council of the Conservation Unit (UC) was held. The meeting, promoted by the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity (Ideflor-Bio), was attended by representatives from public agencies, organized civil society, and the Institute's technical team.

The meeting focused on preparing the region for the summer season, especially in July, when the resort receives a large volume of tourists. Among the main topics discussed were actions for area management, strengthening environmental enforcement, and measures to guide visitors, aiming to protect local ecosystems and maintain the balance between tourism and conservation.

Preservation and Management

During the meeting, the need to curb irregular occupations in protected areas was discussed, with a focus on Ponta da Sofia – a tourist spot that has suffered from constructions that do not comply with the legal limits of the UC.

"It is essential that everyone understands that respecting the rules of use of the UC is a guarantee that we will have this natural heritage preserved for future generations," emphasized Ellivelton Carvalho, director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units at Ideflor-Bio.

Progress in the Construction of the Management Plan

Another point discussed was the holding of the Final Workshop for the Elaboration of the Management Plan of the Unit, scheduled for August this year. The activity will bring together representatives from different segments of society operating in the territory to consolidate the document that will guide conservation actions, sustainable use, and management of the protected space.

The councilor and representative of GAV Resort, José Pereira, highlighted the importance of dialogue between the community, private initiative, and public power. "It is important for the community to join with public and private agencies that are part of the Council, so that Atalaia has a proper use and not an invasion, as is happening at Ponta da Sofia. Today was a very important step to advance what is being done here at the monument," he evaluated.

Community Integrated into Environmental Protection

The Secretary of the Environment of Salinópolis, Jéssica Matos, also participated in the meeting and reinforced the importance of community engagement in preservation actions.

"The active participation of the community and entrepreneurs is essential to preserve this area that is so important for our state and for the Pará coastline. We need to curb disordered advances and ensure that tourists find a beautiful, welcoming, and environmentally balanced city," she pointed out.

With the alignment of actions for the high season and the progress in the strategic planning of the UC, the Management Council reaffirms its commitment to the conservation of the Atalaia Natural Monument, protecting one of the most emblematic tourist destinations on the Pará coast and promoting the sustainable development of the region.
