Fire Department is strategic in various fronts of assistance to the population
Among the nearly 68,000 occurrences registered in 2024, several calls were related to prevention and assistance to the people of Pará

Activities of protection and civil defense, pre-hospital care, search and rescue services, inspections, lifeguards, expert assessments, and firefighting are among the main services performed by the Military Fire Department of Pará (CBMPA). In 2024, nearly 68,000 occurrences were registered by the corporation, and numerous calls dealt with prevention and assistance actions.
For all demands, the military personnel receive training to ensure they can respond with the highest possible efficiency. “To be a firefighter, the military puts their own life at risk to safeguard others. It is not an easy task. Depending on the type of service, we need to have good physical conditioning to provide a response; for all demands, a lot of study is required. We strive to serve the population with all our dedication,” emphasizes Major Israel Souza, an expert from CBMPA.

Among the most recent actions of the firefighters in the assistance service is the Civil Defense's support to residents of the Mosqueiro district in Belém, following the strong winds recorded on May 4. The phenomenon primarily affected properties in the Maracajá neighborhood, causing damage to residents.
Professor José Vilhena, a resident of Mosqueiro, was one of the people assisted by the Civil Defense, which conducted a survey of the damages with those affected and promoted assistance actions. “Many neighbors lost everything they had; others, like me, had their houses, especially the roofs, damaged or torn off. They organized a help action for the affected families, distributing food baskets, hygiene item baskets, and delivering, along with the Housing Company of Pará, the Sua Casa checks to help rebuild what was destroyed,” he highlights.

With his house 80% roofless, Marco Leal was also one of the residents who received assistance from the military. “I also suffered losses with two mattresses; the tiles swelled with the rain, and the electrical wiring in my house broke completely. The Civil Defense went there, took photos, and recorded everything. We received a hygiene kit, a food basket, and a Sua Casa check, thank God,” he says.
