The construction works for the new Civil Police Station on Cotijuba Island, an island district of Belém, have already progressed 35% in just six months. The initiative by the Government of Pará is being executed with resources from the Public Safety Investment Fund (Fisp), managed by the Secretariat of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), and represents another step in strengthening security in strategic areas of the State.

With a budget of R$ 3.27 million, the new facility will benefit residents and visitors of the island, who currently depend on services in the district of Icoaraci. The structure is being built on a 940 square meter plot and is expected to be delivered in the second half of 2025.

Investment in public safety

According to the Secretary of Public Safety, Ualame Machado, the use of Fisp resources has been essential for modernizing security forces and improving service to the population.

“The Fisp has been crucial for the modernization and strengthening of our security forces. A concrete example, just as in other police stations, is the construction of the new Civil Police Station in Cotijuba. This station is not just a physical structure, but represents a significant advancement in our capacity to protect and serve the community,” he emphasized.

He added: “The construction of the Cotijuba police station is just one example of what we can achieve when we unite efforts and prioritize security as a fundamental pillar of our government.”

Complete structure and humanized service

The new Cotijuba Police Station will have a reception area, public and adapted restroom, storage for cleaning materials, incident room, delegate's office, rooms for investigators, a registry office with space for a clerk and archives, as well as accommodations, a pantry, service area, male cells, and special custody.

According to the General Delegate of the Civil Police of Pará, Raimundo Benassuly, the project represents an important advancement for the integrated public safety system and for the population.

“The Civil Police of the State of Pará is committed to better serving the population. With this new space, in partnership with Segup, service to the local community will be facilitated. We will have a more comfortable and humanized environment, essential for both users and our staff,” he stated.

Public Safety Investment Fund

The Public Safety Investment Fund (Fisp), linked to Segup, was created with the aim of raising and managing resources from the provision of services by police forces. These resources are applied to improving physical structures, re-equipping, renovations, and strategic actions of public safety institutions.

Between 2023 and 2024, through the Fisp, the State Government built and reconstructed nine police units in the municipalities of Salinópolis, Anajás, Curralinho, Muaná, Salvaterra, Afuá, Xinguara, Barcarena, and Itaituba. In addition, more than 50 police stations in the interior received building maintenance during the same period.
