The municipality of Igarapé-Miri, located in the Integration region of Baixo-Tocantins, northeastern State, will host the Economic Development Seminar on May 28. The event is organized by the Pará Economic Development Company (Codec), in partnership with the local city hall. The event will take place from 9 AM to 1 PM at the auditorium of Marilda Nunes School, in the city center.

Focusing on promoting regional development and creating a favorable business environment, the action is part of Codec's agenda for collaboration with Pará municipalities. The Pará Development Company aims to expand investment opportunities and generate jobs and income, a program included in the State's Multiannual Plan.

Popularly known as the "world capital of açaí", Igarapé-Miri concentrates the largest production chain of the fruit in the world, is the largest producer in the State, and is also responsible for about 28% of national production, according to data from IBGE released in 2017. The fruit also generated over R$ 1.57 billion in the local economy in 2020, with more than 1.5 million tons produced (IBGE, 2023).

The economy surrounding açaí involves riverside dwellers, family farmers, cooperatives, and small agro-industries, which handle cultivation, harvesting, processing, and export. With an estimated annual production of over 300 thousand tons, the municipality stands out not only for quantity but also for the quality of the fruit, which supplies everything from local markets to international ones. The açaí chain in the municipality is an example of an activity that combines tradition, sustainability, and income generation, being essential for the livelihood of a large part of the population.

The Seminar - Aimed at entrepreneurs, representatives of the productive sector, educational and research institutions, and banking institutions, the event will address the business environment of Igarapé-Miri, strategies to attract new investments, and projects for incentivized industrial areas. The proposal for the development of the Igarapé-Miri Investor Guide will also be presented, a tool that shows the best investment opportunities in the region.

The meeting will also be open to the general public, and among the main topics to be discussed are:

  • The main challenges for the development of Igarapé-Miri;
  • The strategic partnership between the State and the Municipality;
  • The role of Codec in promoting regional development;
  • The socioeconomic panorama and local potential;
  • The business environment and economic opportunities in the municipality;
  • The proposal for the development of the Igarapé-Miri Investor Guide;
  • The feasibility of creating an Incentivized Industrial Area.

For Ismael Araújo, Secretary of Development of the municipality, the event will be a crucial moment for dialogue among the various sectors of the region: “We will have the opportunity to share ideas, hear different perspectives, and together outline strategies that will directly impact the future of Igarapé-Miri. It is a moment of collective construction, where every contribution is essential for the sustainable growth and development of the region. Together, we can turn challenges into opportunities and ensure a more prosperous, fair, and full of possibilities future for all,” he commented.

The program will also include an open dialogue moment with participants, strengthening active listening and the collaborative construction of public policies for the municipality.

“The development seminar in Igarapé-Miri will be a unique and very important opportunity for us to discuss concrete paths for the sustainable growth of the region, strengthening partnerships, attracting investments, and valuing local potentials. Codec, in partnership with the city hall, has been working to ensure that all sectors, both public and private, engage and actively contribute to this development process,” said Lutfala Bitar, President of Codec.

The initiative is part of the Company's commitment to the internalization of economic development and the strengthening of local vocations through strategic partnerships, planning, and promotion of investments.
