The I Meeting of Multiple Knowledge of the Amazon began this Thursday (23) in Marabá, promoted by campus VIII of the State University of Pará (Uepa). The initiative is part of the project "Letter to Scientists: Dissemination, Popularization, and Strengthening of Science in the Amazon," approved in a public notice by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), linked to the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI). The program concludes this Friday (23) at the Pátio Marabá shopping center, aiming to bring science closer to society and value the knowledge produced in the Amazon region.

The event promotes three simultaneous actions: the I Fair of Professions, Science, and Innovation (FEPROCI), the Meeting of Multiple Knowledge of the Amazon itself, and the I Hackathon, whose theme is "Combating Misinformation in Health and the Environment."

During the opening, the professor and organizer of the event, Milene Silveira, recalled the origin of the project. "This project was born in a very difficult moment for science in Brazil. The idea came up in a conversation with a friend when we thought about creating an action that could democratize, popularize, and strengthen science in the Amazon. Thus, the Letters project emerged, to bring scientific knowledge to everyone," she explained.

The vice-rector of Uepa, Ilma Pastana, also participated in the opening ceremony, in addition to attending the inaugural class of the Multiprofessional Residencies in Urgency and Emergency and in Mental Health, held in the morning at the local campus.

Science, culture, and inclusion

With free and open access to the public, the program includes lectures, a debate marathon, cultural presentations, and the exhibition of the results of the "Letter to Scientists" project. Among the highlights is the exchange of correspondence between public school students and researchers working in the Amazon, promoting a direct exchange between science and the community.

The event features the participation of recognized scientific and educational institutions, such as the Evandro Chagas Institute (IEC), the National Center for Primates (CENP), the Emílio Goeldi Paraense Museum (MPEG/MCTI), the Federal University of Southern and Southeastern Pará (Unifesspa), the Federal Institute of Pará (IFPA), and the Support Group for Rheumatic Patients of Southern and Southeastern Pará (GARPA).

The complete program is available on the event website.
