This is the seventh drug seizure this May and reinforces the fight against crimes committed in the Amazon rivers

The integrated and continuous inspections carried out by agents of the Candiru River Base, linked to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) in conjunction with the Military and Civil Police, Fire Department, and Federal Revenue, have resulted in daily seizures of drugs and other illicit goods transported on vessels in the Amazon River.

In the early hours of this Thursday (22), another seizure was made. This time, 7 blocks of Skank-type marijuana weighing 8.145 kg were seized, and a man responsible for the drugs on the vessel "F/B Princesa de Juruti" that left Juruti heading to Santarém was arrested in the act.

During the approach to the vessel navigating the Amazon River in front of the municipality of Óbidos, after leaving Juruti for Santarém, passengers were asked to stay close to their luggage; however, a black suitcase caught attention as its owner did not appear.

The suitcase was opened, and 7 blocks of Skank-type marijuana weighing approximately 8.145 kg were found inside. Subsequently, the agents analyzed the images from the vessel's surveillance cameras, which led to the identification of the person responsible for the luggage. In light of the facts, the suspect confessed to the crime and was arrested in the act, being later taken to the Civil Police team at the Candiru Base for appropriate procedures.

“We continue with another successful inspection completed by the agents of the Candiru Base; from Saturday until this Thursday, we made three drug seizures, resulting in almost 150 kg of drugs seized, which were being transported on vessels using the Amazon River route. The action demonstrates, once again, the effectiveness of the security strategy for the river network of Pará, where we have been able to intercept drug trafficking, fugitives from justice, and other illicit activities attempting to cross the rivers daily. This morning, over 8 kilograms of Skank were seized from a man heading to the municipality of Santarém, and with the expertise of our agents, the material was seized and the man arrested in the act, thus weakening the illegal drug trade in the state,” said the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.

Seizure summary at the Candiru Base

From January to April 2025, 398 approaches to vessels on the rivers surrounding the Candiru Base were conducted, resulting in the seizure of over 590 kg of drugs already examined, and 850 kg of shredded paper impregnated with drugs that are still under examination. Also, 13 people were arrested in the act, and another 11 arrest warrants were executed.

This May, over 200 kilograms of drugs were seized in seven flagrant cases during inspections of vessels in the river network of the Amazon River. The actions continue in order to suppress the transport of illicit goods on vessels using the routes in the Lower Amazon.
