The renewal and appointment of the members of the Advisory Council of the State Forest (Flota) of Trombetas, in the western region of Pará, was published in the Official State Gazette (DOE) this Wednesday (21). The initiative, coordinated by the Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio), strengthens the participatory management of the Conservation Unit (UC), focusing on environmental conservation and valuing the traditional populations living in its surroundings.

Created through State Decree No. 2,607, of 2006, Flota Trombetas is one of the largest UCs in Pará and is part of the strategic set of protected areas in the Amazon region. With the renewal, the Council now has 22 representations, including public agencies and civil society entities, according to the guidelines of the National System of Conservation Units (SNUC).

The new Council includes institutions such as Ideflor-Bio, Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), National Foundation of Indigenous Peoples (Funai), municipal environmental secretariats of Óbidos and Oriximiná, State Secretariat for the Environment and Sustainability (Semas), public universities such as the University of Western Pará (Ufopa) and the Federal Institute of Pará (Ifpa), as well as entities linked to rural extension and local legislative power.

The Council also includes various representations from civil society, including quilombola and indigenous associations, unions, religious entities, and non-governmental organizations such as the Institute of Man and Environment of the Amazon (Imazon), the Amazon Conservation Team (Ecam), the Indigenous Research and Training Institute (Iepé), and agro-extractive associations in the region.

Dialogue - The director of Management and Monitoring of Conservation Units at Ideflor-Bio, Ellivelton Carvalho, highlighted the importance of the Council for strengthening environmental governance. “The renewal of the Flota Trombetas council ensures an active voice for the communities and institutions that coexist with the forest. It is an essential instrument for planning, social control, and the effectiveness of conservation actions,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the manager of the Administrative Region of the North Channel II, Ronaldison Farias, who presides over the Council, emphasized the role of social participation in the implementation of environmental public policies. “This plural composition reflects the commitment to shared management, which respects local knowledge and strengthens the protection of the forest with inclusion and dialogue,” he emphasized.

The term of the new councilors will be two years, which may be renewed for an equal period. The activities carried out in the council are considered of relevant public interest and are not remunerated. The inauguration of the members will take place in a meeting convened by Ideflor-Bio, as provided for in the Ordinance published in the DOE.
