Pará will have works of 13 indigenous and quilombola schools completed with support from the UN
Interested companies have until June 12 to participate in the international bidding promoted by UNOPS

Pará will have 13 indigenous and quilombola schools built through a partnership between the National Fund for Educational Development (FNDE) and UNOPS, the United Nations office specialized in infrastructure. The deadline for interested companies to submit proposals in the bidding to complete works of indigenous and quilombola schools in Pará remains open until June 12, 2025, at noon (Brasília time).
The educational units are located in the municipalities of Capitão Poço, Paragominas, Baião, and Colares. The construction is at different phases, and the partnership has the support of the Pará State Department of Education (Seduc).
The notice for the new bidding, published by UNOPS on the UN procurement portal (UNGM), includes nine of these schools. Among the requirements for companies are: average annual revenue of R$ 16.25 million, registration with CREA or CAU, as well as proven experience in concrete building works with a minimum area of 4,700 m².
Before the deadline, an online clarification session will be held on May 26, also at noon, so that interested parties can learn more about the initiative and ask questions.
The first four schools of the group have already had their works bid and are expected to have the contract signed later this month. Technical visits conducted by UNOPS, FNDE, and Seduc took place in September 2024 and January 2025, with diagnostics of the structures and active listening of local communities. Some demands presented, such as adapting the size of classrooms and using more accessible materials in the regions, have been incorporated into the projects.
The Secretary of State for Education of Pará, Rossieli Soares, highlighted the importance of the joint action. "Ensuring better teaching conditions for indigenous and quilombola education is a clear priority. The partnership with the UN, FNDE, Seduc, and the municipalities is another device for us to advance even further in this regard. It is by working together and looking at the local characteristics and needs that we can offer quality education for our students, as well as better conditions for our professionals and opportunities for the school community. This is very important news for education in Pará, which will soon gain 13 new schools," he stated.
The president of FNDE, Fernanda Pacobahyba, emphasized the importance of the partnership to strengthen education in historically excluded communities. "Completing these works ensures that indigenous and quilombola communities have access to safe and adequate teaching spaces, respecting their cultural identities and promoting inclusion. This is an important step to reduce inequalities and ensure quality education for all," she stated.
About the project
The initiative is part of an agreement signed in May 2024 between FNDE and UNOPS, which provides for the completion of up to 120 indigenous and quilombola schools in the North, Northeast, and Central-West regions of Brazil. The goal is to reduce the deficit of school infrastructure in remote areas, ensuring access to education while respecting the cultural identities of the communities served.
