Specialized rooms assist children and adolescents victims of sexual violence at the Scientific Police of Pará
In the month when the "Orange May" campaign highlights the importance of combating this type of violence, professionals from PCEPA emphasize the care for children and adolescents victims of this type of violence
This Sunday (18), the date chosen to annually highlight the National Day for the Combat of Abuse and Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, the Scientific Police of Pará (PCEPA) emphasizes that it provides humanized care daily, starting from the space for welcoming victims.
PCEPA actively participates in the integrated network for assisting victims of assaults on vulnerable individuals, especially children and adolescents, at the locations where it has legal medical and dental expertise, or at the Integrated ParáPaz centers, with a permanent role in conducting forensic procedures, whether medical or in criminalistics, as a main actor in producing technical evidence, in the constitution of the Judicial Police Inquiry.
According to the criminal expert and general director of the Scientific Police, Celso Mascarenhas, the rooms that serve victims of these demands were designed to provide a welcoming environment. "The rooms were created for better reception of our examinees, with the aim of providing more humanized care and avoiding revictimization.
With the separation of detainees and other expertise, we provide more humanized care. In addition, the playrooms in the waiting area also contribute to the humanization," he emphasizes.
Reports ensure justice
Legal medical and dental expertise are extremely important tools in investigations, capable of guaranteeing the police authority the possibility of concluding their work through the reports issued by forensic doctors. Integrated care is strategically developed by all health, security, and assistance agencies, favoring the non-revictimization of the assaulted individual when attended by professionals, since a report is generated during the first attendance that will serve as a historical basis for further procedures.
"Forensic medical experts always act with the utmost attention, discretion, and humanity, so that the victim feels welcomed and secure, knowing that the Institution is a necessary and safe device in favor of achieving the justice they seek.
The vast majority of victims are female and the aggressors are male, and male victims are also victimized by male individuals; thus, to better address the situation, they should preferably be attended by female experts, avoiding any embarrassment," explains the forensic doctor and director of the Institute of Legal Medicine and Dentistry of PCEPA, Hinton Júnior.
The director also explains that in the ParáPaz services, the Scientific Police only maintains female forensic doctors for care, and at the Headquarters. Since the service operates in 24-hour shifts, when there are no female doctors on duty, evidence is always preserved through material collection and referral for medical assistance, with prophylaxis and treatments, and subsequently, the forensic complement is performed by female doctors. The collection is always carried out by female forensic technicians in cases where it is imperative, that is, within 72 hours of the occurrence, with full custody of the Institution.
