New security totem arrives to reinforce safety and service in Marituba
The equipment, installed in Menino Deus square, in the city center, offers a greater angle and visual coverage, significantly contributing to the video monitoring of the area

Seeking to expand the response to incidents and expedite the service provided by security forces, the Government of Pará delivered this Thursday (15) in Marituba, Metropolitan Region of Belém, another public safety totem. The equipment, installed in Menino Deus square, in the city center, offers a greater angle and visual coverage, significantly contributing to the video monitoring of the area.
The totem, delivered to the population by the State Governor, Helder Barbalho, was widely celebrated for the benefits it represents. The head of the State Executive highlighted the importance of the equipment to intensify the security offered.
“I want to congratulate the security team for this monitoring instrument, because when this square is fully ready, it will be the new ‘point’ of Marituba, families will gather, leisure activities and health promotion will happen. And, with the totem with cameras operating 24 hours, the population will be safer,” said the governor.
According to Helder Barbalho, the totem helps to monitor the BR-316 area, tracking plates, identifying stolen cars, assisting the police in apprehending criminals, in addition to facial recognition, which identifies criminal individuals. Furthermore, those who need to call 190 can already make reports on-site. Marituba gains this equipment today in a strategic position,” stated the governor of Pará.
More than 50 totems in the metropolitan region of Belém
The State Government, through the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), has already installed more than 50 pieces of equipment in the Pará territory in 2024. Now, it begins a new phase of implementation, where another 50 will be installed, starting with Marituba.

“This is the second phase of the Smart Cities project. First, we installed 50 totems in the main cities of the State and now we are starting a series of deliveries. There will be another 50 new pieces of equipment, so that we can provide the population with more security through the use of technology,” reinforced the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.
Today, there are totems installed in the capital and in the municipalities of Ananindeua, Marabá, Santarém, Altamira, and Salinópolis. The next equipment will be distributed in the cities of Abaetetuba, Ananindeua, Barcarena, Belém, Bragança, Breves, Canaã dos Carajás, Cametá, Capanema, Castanhal, Igarapé-Miri, Itaituba, Marituba, Mãe do Rio, Moju, Paragominas, Parauapebas, Redenção, Salinópolis, Tailândia, and Tucuruí, fulfilling the commitment to expand the capacity for video monitoring in the municipalities of Pará through technology and artificial intelligence.
Visual coverage - The equipment has four fixed cameras and one 360° camera that monitors the surrounding areas. It also features an emergency button, allowing real-time contact with agents from the Integrated Operations Center (CIOp). The equipment also has long-range speakers and sound alarms, in addition to a real-time location system.
“The totem has embedded artificial intelligence, facial recognition to locate fugitives from justice, and can also locate stolen and robbed vehicles. If the population needs it, there is also an activation button that speaks directly with the CIOp, through a simple touch of this button. Additionally, it has the capability to communicate with society through public safety via a loudspeaker that has a range of 100 meters to convey messages, alerting the population so that they can always be informed and guided,” explains Ualame.

The totem is a piece of equipment that has been contributing to public safety in Pará, both in urgent and emergency incidents and in police investigations.
A resident for 40 years in Marituba, social worker Margaret Resque celebrated the arrival of the new equipment.

“This equipment is of utmost importance for us here in the municipality. Not only in the municipality, but throughout the State. It is very important because we feel safer, with more security, thanks to the firmness in the work of public safety,” she said.
