Peace Factories in Belém are receiving an important initiative focused on sustainability and environmental awareness. Launched on Tuesday (13), the "Regenera Project" is a movement that brings environmental education and social and sustainable entrepreneurship to the communities of the capital.

The project will offer a series of free workshops, lectures, and training sessions focused on recycling plastic, organic, and forest waste, as well as repurposing materials for the production of artistic and handcrafted installations.

Programming - In this first phase, the Peace Factories Terra Firme, Jurunas/Condor, Cabanagem, and Bengui will host lectures focused on sustainability and waste repurposing. Subsequently, workshops will be held to teach, in practice, how to reuse recyclable materials to produce new products, ensuring, in addition to sustainability, a new source of income for the served population.

The initiative is the result of a partnership between the Regenera Project and the Secretary of Citizenship Articulation (Seac), reinforcing the role of the Peace Factories as spaces for social transformation, innovation, and inclusion.

Lúcia Nazaré

Transformation - The community received the project with enthusiasm. For artisan Lúcia Nazaré, 57, the initiative represents a chance for learning and commitment to the future. "I am very excited to start the courses. We see so much trash thrown around and never imagine that it can be transformed into art or even income. It’s great to see this type of project coming here because we need to understand this reality and keep an eye on the future, on the environmental education of the next generation," she said.

Taissa Buescu

For Taissa Buescu, the creator of the Regenera Project, the project at the Peace Factories represents a symbolic step towards environmental transformation.

"The goal is to bring to the community the importance of environmental education and conservation, proper disposal, selective collection, and the opportunities that this material, which we call trash, but which are solid waste, can bring, as they can be raw materials for other activities and products. So, the plastic recycling workshops and also the organic waste workshops held here at the Peace Factories will raise awareness among the population about the importance of proper disposal of these opportunities. And taking these results to COP 30 is a way to give global visibility to what is being built here, with the very hands of the communities," she stated.

According to the creator, participants in the workshops will have the opportunity to exhibit the materials produced during the 30th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, COP 30, which will take place in November this year in the capital of Pará.

For the head of Seac, Elieth de Fátima Braga, the initiative is yet another tool for inclusion and community strengthening provided through the Peace Factories.

"The Peace Factories are spaces designed to promote citizenship, and this project aligns with our purpose of integrating education, sustainability, and opportunity generation. By directly involving communities in recycling and entrepreneurship practices, we are planting seeds of transformation that go far beyond environmental impact," she explained.

Service - Soon, registrations will open for the project workshops at the participating Peace Factories. The programming can be followed on the Instagrams @UsinasdaPaz and @regeneraproject.
