The Government of Pará, in partnership with the City Hall of Belém, carried out another stage of the "Pothole Filling" Operation during the night of Monday (12) and the early hours of this Tuesday (13), with concentrated action on the Augusto Montenegro Highway, one of the main access routes to the capital of Pará. The services took place at night, from 10 PM to 6 AM, with more than 24 tons of asphalt applied to the road, ensuring greater safety in traffic and improvement in urban mobility.

“The "Pothole Filling" Operation continues to improve the movement of people. The Augusto Montenegro Highway is already feeling the effects of the work, with more fluidity and safety in traffic, and all of this done at night to not compromise the flow of those who need to transit through this important road. All of Belém is undergoing this moment of transformation in infrastructure, and we will continue to cover other neighborhoods and districts,” said the Secretary of Public Works, Ruy Cabral.

The initiative is led by the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), in conjunction with the Secretariat of Urban Maintenance and Conservation (Sezel), and covered both directions of the Augusto Montenegro Highway. The work starts at Rua Oito de Maio, in Icoaraci, going up to the Entroncamento, in the Castanheira neighborhood, and returning along the same route. To ensure agility and efficient coverage, two teams worked simultaneously with the support of dump trucks along the stretches.

General services assistant Toni Pinheiro works at a gym on the Augusto Montenegro Highway and approved the initiative between the municipal and state powers. “Whenever I left work, I noticed the holes and the mud they generated. It was something that had been a problem for a while. Thanks to this work, we can already see the change not only for drivers but for pedestrians as well, as some sections with holes also made cars and motorcycles swerve, trying to drive on the sidewalk,” said Toni Pinheiro.

Infrastructure and Mobility

Launched last January, the "Pothole Filling" Operation is the result of a task force between the State Government and the City Hall of Belém to ensure the maintenance and recovery of urban roads in the capital of Pará. The initiative has already benefited several neighborhoods, such as Coqueiro, Pedreira, Terra Firme, Umarizal, Cidade Velha, Campina, Marco, and Sacramenta, as well as the districts of Icoaraci and Outeiro.

The action reinforces the commitment of both state and municipal administrations to improve urban mobility and the quality of life for the people of Belém.
