Population can now see Quadra 3 of the Nova Doca project in Belém
Quadra 3 of the Nova Doca Linear Park can now be seen up close by the population of Belém. The Government of Pará has begun removing the barriers from the section between Rua Municipalidade and Avenida Senador Lemos, which is also receiving new asphalt. The project is part of the set of structural works considered a legacy of COP30, the World Climate Conference, which will take place in Belém in November.
The approximately 190 meters of Quadra 3 of Nova Doca are receiving finishing services, landscaping, and the installation of new equipment.
“We are rigorously advancing on the COP30 construction schedule. We have already completed 77% of the work on Nova Doca, and the time has come for the population to observe what is being done in Quadra 3. Every day we are intensifying the work, presenting the results in practice to those passing by Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco. Nova Doca is already a reality, and soon this space will be ready to welcome the residents of our capital, the state, and the visitors of COP30,” said Ruy Cabral, Secretary of Public Works.
Quadra 3 of Nova Doca has already received playground equipment. The area will also have a pet space, pergolas, a bike path, and the planting of 29 trees that make up the landscaping of the Linear Park. In total, 180 trees will be planted along the eight blocks of the canal.
As part of the strategy for purifying the canal water, Quadra 2 will also have a wastewater treatment system through wetlands, the so-called “filter gardens,” which use plants that absorb impurities from the canal and return oxygen, reducing environmental impacts.
Freelancer Josiel Lobato has been selling coconuts on Avenida Visconde de Souza Franco for over 20 years and believes that the Nova Doca project will improve income and create new jobs. “This will be a tourist spot due to the COP30 event. So, we are expecting improvements. It will be good not only for my income but for many people who live off commerce, the taxi stand that is here... I am hopeful because from outside you can already see that it is looking beautiful,” said Josiel Lobato.
Sewage - The Nova Doca project will also ensure proper collection and treatment of sanitary sewage in the region. The system will be connected to the Treatment Station (ETE) of Una, currently under construction on Arthur Bernardes Highway.
Executed by the State Secretariat of Public Works (Seop), the sanitation services will ensure the removal of the volume of sewage that is irregularly discharged into the canal, improving water quality and providing more basic infrastructure for the population.
First and second sections have also been released for viewing
The Government of Pará has removed the barriers and is finalizing the services on Quadra 1 of Nova Doca – located between Avenida Pedro Álvares Cabral/Rua Belém and Avenida Marechal Hermes – and Quadra 2, which is between Rua Belém and Rua Municipalidade.
The spaces consist of a walkway structure with an elevated viewpoint, bleachers for contemplation, a bike path, water ballet, two interactive fountains next to the event and cultural activities area, contemplation areas, a gym, and a kiosk with a living space.
