Sefa seizes over 117 thousand liters of ethyl alcohol during inspection in southwestern Pará
Cargo valued at over R$ 563 thousand was retained due to irregularity in the calculation of ICMS-ST

During an inspection carried out on May 10, the State Department of Finance (Sefa) seized 117,030 liters of hydrated ethyl alcohol in the region of Novo Progresso, in southwestern Pará. The cargo was being transported in two tank trucks that had left Sinop, in Mato Grosso, heading to a distributor in Santarém (PA).
The action took place at the Coordination Unit for the Control of Goods in Transit in Serra do Cachimbo, located at km 785 of the BR-163 Highway (Cuiabá-Santarém). The merchandise was valued at R$ 563,195.18.
Irregularity in tax led to seizure
According to the coordinator of the fiscal unit, Maycon Freitas, the seizure occurred after a document analysis indicated an error in the calculation of the ICMS of Tax Substitution (ICMS-ST). “It was verified that the sending company used a lower ad rem rate than the one in effect, published by COTEPE. This resulted in a lower collection of the tax due to Pará,” he explained.

Fine and seizure terms
As a result of the infraction, two Terms of Seizure and Deposit (TAD) were drawn up, totaling R$ 59,392.36 — an amount referring to the difference in ICMS-ST and the applied fine.
Sefa emphasizes that fiscal control at the state borders is essential to ensure tax justice and prevent tax evasion in high-volume operations, such as in the fuel and derivatives sector.
