Nursing technician, Lucélia Sousa, participated in the action for the second time and donated blood at the Hospital in Santarém

For the second time, nursing technician Lucélia Sousa took advantage of the campaign of the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas Dr. Waldemar Penna (HRBA), in Santarém, in western Pará, to do a good deed: donate blood. She is an employee of the unit and was happy with the opportunity to help others.

"It is very important. It may not help you today, but we do not know what tomorrow holds. It can help a family member or anyone. Besides doing good for yourself, you also help many people. I invite everyone who is not yet a donor to make a donation," said Lucélia Sousa.

Employees, users, and visitors donated blood at the Regional Hospital of Baixo Amazonas (HRBA), in Santarém

On Friday (9), the Regional Hospital of Santarém, in partnership with the Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa), promoted the donation campaign in the graphic methods sector, collecting 70 blood bags.

With the theme "Save lives today, save lives always!", the initiative of the HRBA Transfusion Agency aimed to increase the stock to supply the health units in the region, as well as to raise awareness among employees, companions, and the general public about the importance of this act of solidarity.

Police officer Carlos Diniz donated blood: "We know that the demand is high, from Santarém and other municipalities," he said

Military police officer Carlos Diniz also decided to donate during the Regional Hospital campaign. He has an aunt who is in the unit for surgery. Carlos knows the importance of this simple gesture not only for his aunt but for several patients undergoing health treatment.

"We know that the demand is high, not only from Santarém but also from other neighboring municipalities, and campaigns like this further strengthen the supply to help people who need this blood. I have been a donor for 15 years and I am here doing my part. Those who can, it is important to donate to help many people and save lives. It is a commendable act," he emphasized.

Campaign in partnership with the Hemopa Foundation raised 70 blood bags

Network - The HRBA is a reference in medium and high complexity in the western Pará region, being supplied daily with blood bags donated by the Hemopa Foundation. Until April 2025, HRBA had already used 2,461 blood bags. Last year, there were 5,792 blood transfusions performed, averaging 480 bags per month. In some procedures, such as cardiac surgery, up to 15 blood bags may be used to ensure patient safety.

That is why conducting periodic campaigns is so important for the assistance and recovery of users.

Donors donate blood at HRBA

"We have a profile of oncological and surgical care, and therefore we need a large number of blood transfusions. Our aim as a hospital unit is to promote the attitude of blood donation, so that we can keep the Hemocenter's stock always supplied and consequently the transfusion agencies of our regional hospitals. It is an act of solidarity: donating blood is donating life. It is providing the opportunity for other people to have access to the treatments and transfusions they need," emphasized the general director of HRBA, Matheus Coutinho.

Blood Donation - People between 16 and 69 years old can donate blood. They must weigh more than 50kg, be in good health, and have eaten on the day of donation. Adolescents aged 16 and 17 must be accompanied by a legal guardian to sign the voluntary blood donor authorization.

The Regional Hemocenter of Santarém serves 22 municipalities in the regions of Baixo Amazonas, Tapajós, and Xingu, supplying 13 transfusion agencies and health units in the western part of the state. The unit is located at Avenida Frei Vicente, No. 696, between Alameda 30 and 31, in the Aeroporto Velho neighborhood. The service is from Monday to Friday, from 7 am to 1 pm.
